Position Summary
The Field Operator runs and maintains heavy machinery for commercial and utility-scale energy projects. The Field Operator also supports the Field Supervisor with test pile installation and foundation testing. The Field Operator position is critical for maintaining efficient on-site operations, exceeding client expectations, and troubleshooting and repairing machinery with excellent reporting and communication regarding the schedule and budget impacts.
Primary Responsibilities and Expectations
Mobilize (drive) drill rig(s) and/or support vehicle(s) safely and professionally (CDL preferred).Conduct geotechnical drilling operations, including performing standard penetration tests (SPT) and rock coring procedures in a variety of geologic environments:Knowledge of Geoprobe drilling rigsOversee support staff while on job sites.Understand utility locate markings and locating of geotechnical boring locations.Assist with clearing operations for geotechnical investigations.Perform regular maintenance and repair of drilling equipment, drill rig(s), and support vehicle(s).Ensure the safety of the work site and team members during drilling operations.Mentor younger drillers5 years of verifiable drilling experienceAbility to operate a variety of common construction equipment: track-steer, mini excavator.Reliable transportation to and from work/airports.
Qualifications
Education: High school education required
Experience: Construction experience and heavy machinery experience are required.Heavy machinery maintenance and repair experience preferred.Ground-mount solar installation experience preferred.Knowledge of geotechnical testing procedures is preferred.
Skills: Short notice, frequent, and extensive travel required. OSHA 10-hour training required. OSHA 30-hour training preferred.A valid Driver’s License is required. (CDL preferred) Valid Commercial Driver’s License and passport preferred.Knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and Gmail, and the ability and willingness to learn new software applications.Excellent organizational skills, communication skills, the ability to multitask, and most importantly, the ability to work well in a team.Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills to convey data, both internal and externalProficiency with Microsoft and Google applications. Excellent time-management and organizational skills with high attention to detail. Thorough understanding of geotechnical drilling and split-spoon testing.Desire to learn and advance their careerAbility to lift and carry up to 90 pounds
