About This Position
Education - A high school education or GED. Interpersonal Skills - Courtesy, tact, and diplomacy are essential elements of the job. Work involves much personal contact with others inside and/or outside the college for purposes of giving or obtaining information, building relationships, or soliciting cooperation. Other Skills: -
Associates in Business Technology or related field preferred.
Effective interpersonal, written and oral communication skills. Ability to interact professionally and effectively with students, faculty, and staff; ability to work with students of diverse age and background; and ability to operate independently/multitask. Computer skills with Microsoft Office is a must. Learning different Barton operational software and knowing how to navigate around the internet is required.
Physical Requirements: The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking, standing, bending, carrying of light items, driving an automobile, etc. No special physical demands are required to perform the work. Regular exposure to favorable conditions such as those found in a normal office or classroom.Wages/Other:
The starting hourly range for this position is $17.18 to $19.19.

Barton Community College, Fort Leavenworth Campus, seeks applicants for a full-time, replacement Student Services Specialist. Qualifications: A High School Diploma or GED; Associates in Business Technology or related field preferred. Ability to interact professionally and effectively with students, faculty, and staff; work with students of diverse ages and backgrounds; and ability to operate independently/multitask; problem solving is a must. Experienced computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office is required as well as effective interpersonal, written and oral communication skills. Position serves as first point of contact with all students entering the Fort Leavenworth office, will assist students/potential students with information about programs/degrees offered and general information about the college and classes. Will also assist with all office duties including processing student enrollment and transcripts, working with multiple operating systems to assist students and staff, answering the phone and e-mail, and other traditional office duties. (Military Knowledge preferred). Position requires willingness to travel to Fort Riley to pick up supplies or attend training, make weekly trips to the post office, and conduct other Barton-related business as needed.
