About This Position
The Academic Advisor's primary responsibility will be to provide academic advising services to a diverse population of undergraduate students pursuing business degree programs. This will include providing small group and individual advising, meeting with prospective students and their families, and utilizing technology to communicate with College of Business students. This position will play an integral role in representing students and the needs of the Undergraduate Advising Office on College- and University-wide committees and may be called on to teach a 30-40 person first-year seminar. The Undergraduate Advising Office of the Lundquist College of Business is a fast-paced, customer-focused office that serves over 4,600 pre-business, business, and accounting majors and minors. The Academic Advisor will be a member of a student services team that has a longstanding reputation for providing excellence in student services. The successful candidate will share in the commitment to meet the needs of students through innovative, high-quality, and efficient delivery of advising services. This position requires a strong commitment to serving the needs of students from all backgrounds, recognizing issues of equity, advocating for change on behalf of students, and working collaboratively in a collegial, supportive environment.The Academic Advisor will work with faculty and staff from a variety of offices within the Lundquist College of Business and across the University campus including the Registrar's Office, Financial Aid, departmental offices, Center for Multicultural Academic Support, Accessible Education Center, Athletic Advising Services, Office of Academic Advising and Student Services, Admissions, and International Affairs. This position will also have program coordination responsibilities that may require working closely with outside partners.
There are two Academic Advisor positions available. One position is located on-campus with an opportunity to work a hybrid schedule, including up to one day a week of remote work during the hours of 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. PT. For the second position, we are seeking an individual able to connect with students on evenings and weekends outside of the standard Eugene campus business hours of 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. PT, however, this role will be expected to report to campus periodically. Both positions provide a great opportunity to have a direct impact on the educational trajectory of our students. In your application, please indicate your interest in one or both positions. - Assist students with appropriate course registration and ensure students understand degree requirements.
- Advocate for the advising needs of students that contribute to their successful enrollment, engagement, and completion of their educational goals.
- Advise students on university policies and procedures, program requirements, and related academic matters.
- Closely monitor students to proactively identify at-risk scenarios and identify opportunities to develop, implement, measure, and improve academic success strategies.
- Utilize appropriate systems and student data to confirm and track accurate enrollment, persistence, and graduation information for assigned students. Documents all interactions in the appropriate institutional systems.
- Coach students to explore alternatives to overcome barriers to persistence or graduation and makes appropriate resource referrals when necessary.
- Maintain a thorough understanding of all academic programs, policies and procedures including institutional policies, federal, and state regulations. Complies with applicable federal and state.
- Promote student self-service tools during advising interactions.
- Assist and engage students through a variety of communication This may include virtual/ video advising, inbound student calls, and proactive outreach to students to deliver a positive resolution.
- Identify opportunities and solutions that improve current methods and actively participate in the change of a constantly evolving organization.
- Collaborate with other departments and functional areas to deliver an optimal student
- Bachelors degree.
- One year of student advising experience at the college/university level (or equivalent).
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in business, counseling, student services, or a related field.
- At least three years of student advising experience at a college/university level in business, counseling, student services, or a related field.
- An understanding of issues of equity and the barriers that diverse students may face.
- Demonstrated experience working with a diverse group of students including those from a non-traditional background.
- Strong background in the use of technology and social media in the delivery of advising services.
- Knowledge of student development theory as it relates to academic advising.
- Strong record of innovative programming background.
- Project/event management skills.
