Position Summary:
KIC is hiring a Construction Superintendent in Kotzebue, Alaska, for Design-Build projects. This position oversees all phases of the construction process, from project start through completion. The Superintendent is responsible for submitting detailed weekly progress reports for each task order, scheduling and coordinating subcontractors and material suppliers, and attending all pre-construction site visits, pre-final inspections, and final inspections.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- During design development: participate in meetings with Architects and Engineers to assess scope of work and sequencing; value-engineering, and other input as needed.
- During pre-construction: collaborate with the project team to develop staffing requirements, labor productivity rates, cost estimates, constructability reviews, execution planning, submittal logs, schedules, and subcontractor engagement.
- During construction: oversee all construction and related activities; scheduling (CPM and short interval); and direct all self-perform trades, subcontractors, and vendors.
- Participate in site visits and meetings to assess scope of work, site conditions, logistics planning, and determine necessary resources to deliver project success.
- Prepare, provide, and track: job reports to include labor and equipment usage; Request for Information (RFI's); and Change Orders; Progress reports.
- Must have An Uncompromising Commitment to Safety.

Minimum Requirements:
Experience:
- High School Diploma/GED
- 7 years of experience in journeyman-level work in construction, with no less than 3 years of supervisory experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to read and interpret complex drawings/plans/specifications; to include site/civil, structural, architectural, mechanical, and electrical drawings.
- Ability to prioritize, assign, and oversee work of multiple crews. Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication (written/verbal) skills.
- Experience with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word); Scheduling software (MS Project or Primavera). Familiarity with Procore a plus.
Certifications, Licenses, and Other:
- Valid Driver's License
- First Aid/CPR certification preferred
- OSHA 30 certification
- Ability to pass all required contract security requirements
Work Environment:
Performance of the required job duties will be in both an office/construction trailer environment and on an active, outdoor construction site. Exposure to extreme cold and other weather conditions is expected. May be required to drive between project sites away from the assigned office location.
Physical Demands:
The physical demands of this position are described below, which are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job:
- Ability to walk, stand, climb, and otherwise navigate active construction areas safely.
- Ability to lift, carry, or otherwise move materials or equipment up to 10 pounds regularly, and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, and talk regularly, for extended periods of time.
- Ability to balance, stoop, kneel, squat, and reach occasionally.
- Ability to use arms, hands, and fingers to operate equipment, computers, phones, and other office or field equipment.
- Ability to hear and communicate clearly in active construction environments, including areas with high noise levels.
- Visual acuity to read drawings, perform inspections, and review detailed documentation.
