About This Position
Service Technician – Experienced
Job Type: Full-Time, Hourly
Reports To: Service Manager or General Manager
Position Overview
The Experienced Service Technician performs a wide range of trailer repairs with a focus on accuracy, safety, and consistent productivity. This role is responsible for independently diagnosing issues, completing assigned work orders, and documenting work clearly to support invoicing and customer communication.
This position is designed for technicians who can work with minimal supervision, take ownership of their repairs, and contribute positively to shop workflow and team performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Independently perform mechanical, electrical, brake, axle, and wiring repairs according to company standards
- Diagnose issues accurately and recommend appropriate repairs or replacements
- Complete assigned work orders efficiently with a focus on quality and first-time fixes
- Install parts, accessories, and equipment as required
- Conduct safety inspections and identify worn or damaged components
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area
Diagnosis and Documentation
- Clearly diagnose repair needs and communicate findings to store leadership
- Document work performed with clear, accurate notes for billing and records
- Identify additional recommended repairs or safety items for customer consideration
- Follow proper procedures for warranty and internal work
Workflow and Team Support
- Provide timely updates on job status, additional labor needs, or delays
- Request parts and supplies early to avoid workflow interruptions
- Work closely with parts and sales teams to support efficient, accurate repairs
- Support shop organization and help keep schedules moving
Quality and Safety
- Perform repairs with precision to minimize rework and comebacks
- Follow all safety procedures and use required PPE
- Report equipment issues or unsafe conditions immediately
Training and Development
- Participate in ongoing technical training to continue expanding skill sets
- Learn new tools, equipment, and repair procedures as the business evolves
- Support less experienced technicians through guidance and example when appropriate
Qualifications
- Two or more years of mechanical repair experience in trailers, automotive, equipment, or similar fields
- Working knowledge of trailer systems including wiring, brakes, axles, suspensions, and structural components
- Ability to read and follow work orders independently
- Dependable work habits and professional communication
- Ability to lift and move heavy equipment as needed
- Welding experience is a plus but not required
- Valid driver’s license required
