About This Position
Position Description: The Adult Education Instructor (Part-Time) will work closely with Restore Education instructional staff to assist students enrolled in the organizations programs and activities, to ensure that students meet their educational goals as they prepare for the transition to postsecondary.
Supervisor: Instruction Manager
Status: Exempt
Schedule: Part-Time. Flexible and variable including evenings and Saturdays; not to exceed 30 hours per week at various locations in and around San Antonio and online. Hours are subject to change to ensure deliverables are completed. Course planning time negotiable with direct supervisor.

East Central ISD ESL Classes - Student Services Center- 7395 FM 1628, San Antonio, TX 78263
- Monday/Wednesday from 9:00 am 12:00 pm
The Neighborhood Place ESL Classes - 3314 Rivas Street, San Antonio, TX 78228
- Tuesday/Thursday at 9:00 am 12:00 pm
Other Restore Education locations and/or offsite partner locations as assigned.

General Instructor Responsibilities:
Assist in planning a program of study that meets the adult learners individual needs, interests, and goals.
Use a variety of instructional methods and techniques in the virtual or in-person classroom, including individual tutoring, to achieve required benchmarks.
Create lesson plans that align with content standards for in person and online classes.
Build rapport with students in person/online, initiate conversation with and engage students in tutoring, goal setting, career planning, and other activities to build a positive working relationship.
Maintain contact with students through phone calls, email, and web texting app.
Track participant progress and attendance and maintain accurate documentation and reports.
Present material in an engaging and effective manner to meet the students needs.
Help other Instructors maintain a classroom environment that is conducive to learning, with minimal socialization of students.
Complete student ITEC plans in a timely manner.
Use effective retention strategies such as relationship building, regular student contact, goal setting activities, etc. so that students persist in the program.
Assist with student registration, orientation, and assessment administration (pre-tests and post-tests), and follow-up as requested by the Instruction Manager and Director of Instruction.
Use diagnostic assessments to identify learning gaps and develop personalized learning plans.
Along with the Director of Instruction and other members of the instruction team, promote students successful completion of class and program and communicate barriers quickly and concisely.
Attend monthly departmental meetings.
Complete required training sessions scheduled by Manager or Director and annually complete 15 hours minimum professional development courses.
Function within the policies and administrative procedures of the organization in addition to state and federal laws.
Provide instruction for various programs, including HSE, ESL, Career Readiness, College Readiness, and Digital Literacy (see additional descriptions) below.
Accomplish other duties as assigned in a timely manner.
Estimated Hourly Rate: $19.00 - $23.00 per hour
Additional Responsibilities by Program:
HSE Instruction:
Deliver engaging and effective instruction in HSE subject areas (Math, Reading, Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies) to diverse adult learners.
Develop and implement lesson plans aligned with HSE test standards and College and Career Readiness Standards (CCRS).
Assess student skill levels using diagnostic tools and create individualized learning plans based on assessment results.
Prepare students for high school equivalency exams by teaching academic content, test-taking strategies, and study skills.
Monitor and document student progress, attendance, and outcomes in compliance with program and state requirements.
Maintain a supportive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages adult learners of all backgrounds.
Utilize instructional technology, online learning tools, and digital resources to enhance instruction.
Collaborate with program staff to connect students with support services such as career counseling, workforce training, or transition services.
Participate in professional development activities and stay current with changes in HSE testing and adult education methodologies.
Accomplish other duties as assigned in a timely manner.
ESL Instruction:
Develop and deliver engaging lesson plans that incorporate real-life scenarios, daily living conversations, and practical English usage to meet the needs of diverse learners. Lessons must be based on TWC Adult Education Content Standards.
Create and adapt reading materials that are age- and level-appropriate, culturally relevant, and aligned with course objectives.
Foster language development across all key English language skills: speaking, listening, reading, writing, grammar, and vocabulary.
Integrate technology and multimedia resources to enhance instruction and student engagement.
Conduct needs assessments and placement tests to determine student proficiency levels and inform instruction.
Monitor and assess student progress regularly through formative and summative assessments; provide constructive feedback to support growth.
Promote an inclusive and supportive classroom environment that encourages participation, respect, and cultural sensitivity.
Collaborate with colleagues and program staff to align curriculum, share best practices, and participate in professional development.
Maintain accurate records of student attendance, progress, and performance, in accordance with program and institutional guidelines.
Provide academic and language support through office hours, tutoring sessions, or referrals as needed.
Encourage independent learning and self-confidence in using English outside the classroom in everyday situations.
Collaborate with students to set personalized learning objectives and integrate goal progress into lesson planning and instruction.

Career Readiness Instruction:
Design, develop, and deliver curriculum aligned with workforce readiness competencies, including:
o Communication and interpersonal skills,
o Professionalism and workplace etiquette,
o Teamwork and collaboration,
o Time management and organizational skills,
o Problem-solving and critical thinking,
o Digital literacy (e.g., email, Microsoft Office, online job applications), and
o Rsum writing, cover letter development, and interview preparation.
Facilitate interactive workshops, one-on-one coaching, and group instruction.
Assess participant skill levels and develop personalized career readiness plans.
Collaborate with workforce development staff and local employers to align instruction with labor market needs.
Integrate real-world scenarios and mock interviews to simulate workplace experiences.
Track participant progress and maintain accurate documentation and reports.
Provide ongoing support and mentorship to students throughout their career development journey.
Participate in professional development activities to stay current with industry trends and instructional best practices.
Accomplish other duties as assigned in a timely manner.
College Readiness and Support Instruction:
Provide individualized and group tutoring sessions in Math and Reading/Language Arts, tailored to meet students academic levels and learning styles.
Develop and facilitate engaging workshops to prepare students for college entrance and placement exams.
Support students in building test-taking strategies, critical thinking, and time management skills.
Use diagnostic assessments to identify learning gaps and develop personalized learning plans.
Design and deliver instructional content aligned with college readiness standards and assessment frameworks (e.g., TEKS, Common Core, SAT/ACT/TSIA2 benchmarks).
Track student progress and adjust instructional strategies to meet academic goals.
Collaborate with school counselors, teachers, and program staff to coordinate support services and refer students to additional resources as needed.
Foster a supportive and motivating learning environment to encourage academic persistence and college aspirations.
Maintain accurate records of attendance, assessments, and progress reports.
Accomplish other duties as assigned in a timely manner.
Digital Literacy:
Have knowledge and willingness to learn new technology skills
Develop digital lessons for students: navigating through job sites, google drive, etc.
Assist and Support students with creating an email account, sending a professional message, and attaching a document. Teach individuals how to use devices such as smartphones, tablets, or computers.
Help learners set up and use email accounts, video conferencing tools (e.g., Zoom), or job search platforms (e.g. Indeed, O*NET, etc.).
Assist with word processing, spreadsheets, and basic file management (save, upload, download).
Guide users through creating and formatting digital resumes and cover letters.
Keep records of interactions, assistance provided, attendance, and progress.
Follow up with clients to ensure they are successfully using the digital tools and services introduced.
Build and present digital literacy workshops for off-site and on-site classes.
Refer people to community organizations for job placements, and job support (e.g., job training, and education).
Assist and maintain participants progress and provide one-on-one guidance when needed.
Provide instructions on recognizing scam emails, fake websites, and phishing attempts.
Proctor digital/online exams (CASAS, NorthStar, GMetrix certs, etc.)
Maintain accurate records of pre- and post-surveys and assist in compiling monthly narrative reports by providing necessary information and data.
Accomplish other duties as assigned in a timely manner.
Education and Experience
Required:
Must have a Bachelors Degree
Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred
3-5 years classroom experience in adult education
Strong ability to tutor in Language Arts and Math in Algebra level, preference given to those who can tutor Social Studies and Science
Prior experience working with adult learners and knowledge of adult learner characteristics
Knowledge of essential office equipment, computers, and remote instruction in web meeting software
Knowledge and Skills
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
Highly Skilled in interpersonal relationships with students and adults in leadership, management, teaching, counseling and/or other professional positions.
Ability to present an image of professionalism in appearance and attitude.
Ability to develop rapport with students.
Knowledge of how to develop students motivation and how to build their self-efficacy
Knowledge of advising/counseling techniques and procedures.
Ability to organize work, set priorities, coordinate workload, handle multiple responsibilities and meet deadlines.
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of information and data gathered from work with students.
Ability to deal with diverse situations and people.
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with staff and those contacted in the course of work.
Willingness to learn and assist with career readiness material development
Willingness to learn new things and eagerness to acquire new skills.

LICENSES OR CERTIFICATES
Must possess a valid Class C Texas Drivers License or obtain a valid Class C Texas Drivers License within thirty (30) days after becoming a resident of the State of Texas.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
Physical requirements include visual acuity, speech and hearing, hand and eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to operate a computer keyboard and basic office equipment. Subject to sitting,
standing, bending, twisting, and walking to perform the essential functions.
