Job Description
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Product Performance Actuary based in the United States.
The Product Performance Actuary will serve as a senior actuarial expert focused on mortality analytics, assumption modeling, and product performance.
You will own critical actuarial inputs supporting product development, forecasting, financial reporting, and long-term product competitiveness.
The role combines deep life insurance actuarial expertise with advanced statistical modeling, modern data tools, and emerging AI techniques.
You will investigate complex, open-ended problems and develop new methodologies where established approaches may not exist.
Working closely with Finance, Product, Underwriting, and Data Science teams, you will turn complex data into actionable business and product recommendations.
You will also act as a trusted subject matter expert, communicating sophisticated mortality insights to senior leaders and external partners.
This is an opportunity to shape actuarial strategy in a technology-driven environment while maintaining the rigor, reliability, and financial integrity expected of a leading insurance organization.
- Own mortality assumptions and other actuarial inputs supporting product development, pricing, forecasting, and financial reporting.
- Lead the development, maintenance, and refinement of expected mortality models, assumption frameworks, and experience studies.
- Analyze leading indicators—including post-issue audit data and mortality risk scores—to estimate mortality before experience reaches full credibility.
- Monitor actual-to-expected mortality performance and collaborate with Underwriting and Data Science teams to interpret emerging experience.
- Design and conduct protective value studies to quantify the mortality impact and value of underwriting requirements.
- Assess how applicant behavior influences expected mortality and the shape of mortality curves.
- Translate mortality analytics and actuarial findings into recommendations that improve product competitiveness, performance, and financial outcomes.
- Apply AI and emerging analytical techniques to accelerate actuarial insights, improve efficiency, and expand the impact of modeling work.
- Serve as the internal subject matter expert on mortality, advising senior stakeholders on assumptions, experience, risk, and product performance.
- Engage with external partners when required, communicating technical actuarial concepts clearly and effectively.
- Partner across Finance, Product, Underwriting, and Data Science to balance actuarial rigor with the pace of product and business development.
- Continuously evaluate and improve actuarial methodologies, data sources, models, and analytical processes.
- FSA designation or near-FSA status preferred; experienced ASA candidates may also be considered.
- At least 5 years of experience in life insurance actuarial roles, with meaningful exposure to mortality and underwriting models.
- Strong experience translating third-party data, post-issue audits, mortality risk scores, and other leading indicators into expected mortality assumptions.
- Demonstrated experience setting actuarial assumptions for life insurance pricing, forecasting, or valuation across a broad range of products.
- Strong understanding of mortality modeling, experience analysis, underwriting impacts, and life insurance product performance.
- Proven ability to work effectively with Finance, Product, Underwriting, and Data Science teams while balancing technical rigor with business needs.
- Strong statistical modeling capabilities using R or Python.
- Familiarity with modern data tools and data pipelines such as SQL, dbt, Snowflake, or comparable technologies.
- Proficiency with Excel and actuarial modeling tools.
- Interest in applying AI and emerging technologies to modernize actuarial analysis and improve decision-making.
- Strong analytical judgment and the ability to tackle ambiguous, open-ended problems independently.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate technical actuarial findings into clear recommendations for non-actuarial audiences.
- Comfortable working in a technology-driven, fast-moving environment where established insurance practices are continuously being challenged and improved.
- Competitive U.S. base salary range of $150,000–$266,000 for this full-time position.
- Compensation determined based on role, level, location, relevant skills, experience, education, and training.
- Additional compensation may include applicable bonus and equity opportunities.
- Comprehensive employee benefits package.
- Remote work opportunity within the United States.
- Opportunity to work at the intersection of life insurance, technology, data science, and AI.
- Meaningful opportunity to influence mortality strategy, product performance, and financial decision-making.
- Collaborative environment spanning actuarial, product, finance, underwriting, and data science functions.
- Inclusive workplace committed to diversity, equal opportunity, and authentic contributions from employees.
- Encouragement to apply even when your experience does not align perfectly with every listed qualification.
