This role is focused on helping organizations optimize and modernize their payroll and HR systems to improve accuracy, efficiency, and compliance. You will act as a trusted consultant, working directly with clients to evaluate existing HRIS and payroll setups and translate operational needs into well-configured system solutions. The position blends hands-on payroll expertise with systems configuration, implementation support, and process improvement. You will work across platforms such as Workday, ADP, Paycor, Paylocity, and UKG, supporting clients through system optimization, transitions, and ongoing enhancements. Operating in a flexible, remote consulting environment, you will manage multiple client engagements while delivering high-quality, tailored solutions. This is a highly impactful role for someone who enjoys solving complex payroll challenges and improving how systems function in real business environments.
In this role, you will support clients in optimizing payroll and HR systems while ensuring accurate configuration, smooth implementation, and continuous process improvement. You will serve as both a technical systems advisor and a payroll operations expert.
- Partner with clients to assess payroll and HR workflows and identify system improvement opportunities
- Configure, optimize, and support HRIS and payroll platforms such as Workday, ADP, Paycor, Paylocity, and UKG
- Assist with system implementations, upgrades, transitions, and go-live activities
- Support payroll configuration including earnings, deductions, taxes, and compliance rules
- Troubleshoot payroll and system issues and support resolution efforts
- Recommend process improvements to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and compliance
- Validate system setups and ensure alignment with regulatory requirements
- Provide client training, documentation, and ongoing system support
- Serve as a primary point of contact for system-related client inquiries
- Manage multiple client projects in a consulting-based, flexible environment
The ideal candidate brings deep payroll expertise combined with hands-on experience in HRIS and payroll system configuration or optimization. You are detail-oriented, client-focused, and comfortable working independently across multiple engagements.
- 5+ years of experience in payroll and HR operations
- Experience with HRIS/payroll systems such as Workday, ADP, Paycor, Paylocity, UKG, or similar platforms
- Strong knowledge of payroll processing, tax rules, and compliance requirements
- Experience in system implementation, configuration, optimization, or transitions
- Client-facing or consulting experience strongly preferred
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a remote consulting environment
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail
- Excellent communication and client relationship-building abilities
- Experience in complex payroll environments (multi-state, union, or job costing) is a plus
- Construction or similarly complex industry payroll experience is a strong advantage
- Ability to translate technical systems into clear business solutions
- Hourly compensation: $50 – $65 USD/hour (location and experience dependent)
