University Physicians' Association is hiring a compassionate and motivated Patient Service Rep (PSR). This person will work directly with the Oncology Genetics Counseling Clinic. If you're compassionate, eager to learn and have great time management skills, we would love to meet you!
Job Summary: The PSR provides specialized support to the Oncology Genetic Counseling clinic. This position supplies administrative and scheduling support to the Genetic Counselor. This position is supervised by the Manager of University Surgical Oncology at UT Medical Center Cancer Institute.
What You’ll Do:
As a key member of our care team, you’ll work side-by-side with the Genetic Counselor to ensure a smooth and supportive experience for every patient. Your responsibilities will include:
- Scheduling patient appointments. Triage appointments based on treatment decisions (surgery or systemic therapy options).
- Serve as a primary point of contact for patients regarding financial aspects of care, including insurance coverage, benefits, and out-of-pocket costs.
- Mailing results and/or result letters to patients.
- Contacting laboratories to obtain test information, status updates, testing supplies, etc.
- Scanning or uploading genetic results in our electronic medical record, Powerchart.
- Coordinating and scheduling meetings for the genetic counselor.
- Assisting Genetic counselor in clinic with genetic testing paperwork and test packing and shipping in clinic.
- Maintaining the genetic testing result and genetic counseling referral databases.

What We’re Looking For:
- 1-3 years related work experience required.
- Familiarity with medical terminology, medical records, test requisitions, pathology reports.
- We will train you in Cancer Genetics.
- Strong organization and multi-tasking skills and ability to prioritize work effectively.
- Strong skills with Microsoft applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and other web-based applications. May produce complex documents, perform analysis, and maintain databases.
- Ability to provide a high level of customer service to patients, visitors, staff, and external customers in a professional, service-oriented, respectful manner using skills in active listening and problem-solving. Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
- Strong communication, organization, and time management skills.
- A team player who puts patients first.
