Promotes and maintains health and wellness by conducting exercise evaluations, exercise education, and exercise outcome evaluations and by completing exercise prescriptions and supervising exercise programs.
I. Major Responsibilities:
1. Assesses program participants’ exercise history, goals, perceived barriers, and special considerations and assists patients in establishing long- and short-term exercise goals.
2. Supervises, plans, evaluates, and implements individual and/or group exercise programs for participants in the program.
3. Explains plan and procedures to participants to allay fears and to elicit cooperation in gaining the maximum benefit from the program. Plans post-program follow-up to assist in carrying out the maintenance program.
4. Monitors the progress of program participants in the performance of prescribed exercise regimens to include personal motivation as well as assessment of participant’s tolerance of exercise program.
5. Develops monitoring techniques and specialized exercise programs to meet the weight loss goals, considering medical contraindications and /or risks of each patient.
6. Makes recommendations for equipment needs to meet goals of exercise program.
7. Completes documentation according to hospital policy. Maintains records reflecting up-to-date participant progress, programs and related statistical data as required by departmental policies. Evaluates collected data and provide reports to the physician and/or administrative director as requested.
8. Participates in multi-disciplinary team consultations and meetings to design a total program for the patient.
9. Working with the Medical Director and Senior Director, assists in the analysis of program cost and establishment of fee structure to create positive financial return. Assists in the investigation of payment options, including private pay fee-for-service and third-party reimbursement.
All responsibilities are essential job functions.
II. Position Qualifications:
License/Certification/Education:
Required:
1. Master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university in Exercise Physiology, Exercise Science or related field.
2. BLS certification.
Preferred:
1. American College of Sports Medicine certification.
Experience/Skills:
Required:
1. Minimum of three years of experience in exercise evaluation, instruction and counseling with medically complicated clients.
2. Demonstrated ability to work on a multi-disciplinary team.
3. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Preferred:
1. Experience in evaluation of financial indicators.
Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.
