Job Description

About the Role:

The Sanitation Worker plays a critical role in maintaining a clean, safe, and food-safe environment in accordance with company policies, SQF (Safe Quality Food) standards, and food safety regulations. The role involves the systematic cleaning and sanitizing of floors, machinery, restrooms, and waste disposal areas to prevent contamination and promote workplace safety. The Sanitation Worker collaborates closely with production and maintenance teams to adhere to regulatory compliance and internal protocols. This role plays a key part in supporting the company’s Food Safety and Quality Management System through effective sanitation practices, documentation, and adherence to established procedures..


Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and safety guidelines.
  • Physical capability to perform manual labor, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
  • Basic understanding of cleaning chemicals and equipment usage.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in industrial or manufacturing sanitation.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively report issues and collaborate with team members.
  • Experience working in cold storage or refrigerated facilities preferred.
  • Familiarity with food safety programs, including HACCP and SQF, is a plus.

Responsibilities:

  • Clean and sanitize production equipment, warehouse areas, common spaces, and facility grounds using approved chemicals and sanitation procedures.
  • Dispose of waste materials safely and efficiently, ensuring compliance with environmental and safety regulations.
  • Report any maintenance issues, safety hazards, or sanitation concerns to supervisors promptly.
  • Follow all safety protocols and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) during cleaning operations.
  • Sweep, mop, scrub, wash, and disinfect floors, equipment, and work areas to maintain sanitary conditions.
  • Remove trash, cardboard, and other waste materials from designated areas.
  • Maintain cleanliness of exterior facility areas, parking lots, and surrounding grounds.
  • Clean warehouse racks, dock equipment, and other facility fixtures.
  • Operate sanitation equipment, including pressure washers, floor scrubbers, trash compactors, and balers.
  • Follow all safety procedures and identify potential hazards in the workplace.
  • Complete required sanitation records and documentation accurately and timely.
  • Support SQF, HACCP, food safety, and quality programs through daily sanitation activities.
  • Participate in sanitation and food safety training programs.
  • Report food safety, quality, and safety concerns immediately to management.
  • Follow all food safety, quality, and sanitation procedures.
  • Immediately report any food safety concerns, product contamination risks, or quality issues to a supervisor or manager.
  • Support compliance with SQF standards and company food safety programs.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and perform repetitive tasks throughout the shift.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 35 pounds.
  • Ability to work in refrigerated and climate-controlled environments.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and overtime as needed.
  • Ability to work in areas where noise levels may vary from moderate to loud.

Skills:

The required skills enable the Sanitation Worker to efficiently and safely execute cleaning tasks that uphold the facility's hygiene standards. Attention to detail is essential to identify areas needing cleaning and to ensure thorough sanitation. Physical stamina and manual dexterity are used daily to handle equipment and perform repetitive tasks. Preferred skills such as knowledge of OSHA regulations and experience with specialized cleaning machinery enhance the worker's ability to maintain compliance and improve operational efficiency. Effective communication skills support coordination with supervisors and other departments to address sanitation challenges promptly.
