Job Description
Who We Are
OptiMed Health Partners is a fast-growing, diversified care management and cost containment platform delivering medically necessary infusion therapy, specialty pharmacy, and associated clinical management services to self-funded employers. For over 30 years, we have been optimizing health outcomes and quality of life through personalized and coordinated care for our patients. The OptiMed vision reimagines healthcare solutions to achieve unsurpassed value. Our results-oriented culture fosters learning, providing growth opportunities for our employees and exceptional care for our patients nationwide.
The Impact of This Role
The Controller is the steward of OptiMed’s financial integrity during one of the most dynamic chapters in the company’s history. As OptiMed grows across our specialty pharmacy, infusion services, and benefit management ecosystem, accurate and timely financial information is essential — it is what allows leadership to invest confidently in the people, sites, and capabilities that connect patients to critical therapies.
Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Controller owns the accounting function end to end: the close, the financial statements, the control environment, and the external audit. This is the senior technical accounting seat and the second-in-command of the finance organization — hands-on enough to stand behind a complex reconciliation, senior enough to brief ownership on what the numbers mean.
Because our service lines each carry their own revenue, cost, and reimbursement mechanics — and because we are modernizing our core systems — the Controller directly enables OptiMed’s next stage of growth by keeping reporting clean, controlled, and trustworthy as the organization scales.
What You’ll Be Doing
• Own the monthly and annual close across all entities and business lines, delivering an accurate, timely, and well-supported set of financial statements in accordance with US GAAP
• Serve as OptiMed’s technical accounting authority — researching, documenting, and concluding on GAAP positions for revenue recognition, inventory and cost of goods sold, leases, and intercompany arrangements
• Own revenue and cost accounting for specialty pharmacy along with infusion services. Manage all related gross-to-net mechanics including rebates, contractual adjustments, rebates, inventory management, denials and write offs.
• Reconcile and consolidate results across the specialty pharmacy, infusion, and PBM business units, ensuring intercompany and shared-service activity is properly recorded and eliminated
• Review significant and judgmental entries — accruals, reserves, and reclassifications — and the reconciliations that support them before they reach the financials
• Act as the primary owner of the external audit relationship, from planning and PBC preparation through fieldwork coordination and resolution of findings
• Play a lead finance role in ERP and pharmacy-system transitions — chart of accounts and data design, parallel-period validation, cutover controls, and legacy-to-new reconciliation
• Oversee daily cash positioning and the monitoring of receivables, payables, and liquidity across the operating entities, and support banking and lender relationships alongside the CFO
• Oversee tax compliance across federal, state, payroll, and sales/use obligations in partnership with outside advisors
• Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting, reporting, and tax teams, setting standards of quality and partnering with the CFO on hiring as the organization scales
Who You’ll Be Working With
This role reports to the Chief Financial Officer and leads the accounting, reporting, and tax teams. The Controller partners closely with FP&A, Pharmacy Operations, Infusion Services, Billing and Revenue Cycle, IT, and Account Management, and works with external auditors, tax advisors, lenders, and board stakeholders.
Skills and Experience You’ll Bring to the Table
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field
• CPA required
• 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including prior experience as a Controller, Assistant Controller, or comparable senior accounting leader
• Strong US GAAP technical foundation applied hands-on in a multi-entity environment
• Demonstrated ownership of the external audit relationship, from planning through completion
• Direct experience leading or playing a lead finance role in an ERP or major financial-systems migration preferred
• Public accounting experience (Big 4 or a strong national / regional firm) preferred
• Healthcare experience across one or more of: specialty pharmacy, infusion / medical-benefit billing, or PBM operations, strongly preferred
• Advanced Excel and financial-reporting skills; comfort working across multiple systems and integrations
• MBA or master’s in accounting or taxation a plus
Competencies You’ll Bring to the Table
• High standard of accuracy, with the judgment to know what must be reviewed personally and what can be delegated
• Strong technical accounting problem-solving across complex, multi-line transactions
• Ability to manage a demanding close calendar and competing priorities in a fast-paced, high-growth environment
• Clear communicator who can make complex financial topics understandable to non-financial leaders
• Trusted with confidential information and comfortable as a counterpart to ownership and external partners
• Collaborative, cross-functional mindset across finance, operations, billing, and IT
• Adaptable through systems change and organizational growth
• Growth mindset, openness to feedback, and a bias toward continuous process improvement
• Strong documentation and knowledge-sharing practices
Work Environment
This is a full-time, hybrid position based at OptiMed’s headquarters in Kalamazoo, Michigan, with periodic travel for site visits, audit, and industry events as the business requires. The role operates in a fast-paced, high-growth environment and involves prolonged computer use and work across multiple financial systems and tools.
