We are currently looking for Power System Electrician Apprentices in the Calgary area.
Summary:
Apprentices foster an environment of construction execution excellence, as well as building a culture of providing solutions, not problems. They are responsible for the participation of the day-to-day activities on the job site. Apprentices will ensure that activities are being completed safely and efficiently all while upholding a strong dedication to quality. They will work to be proficient in all areas of electrical maintenance and construction and ask questions to improve understanding and competency. They will develop trade specific skills through hands on experience and formal technical training. They will have a strong commitment to safety, learning and teamwork with the goal of progressing to trades certification.
Qualifications:
As a PSE/ Electrician apprentice in Alberta, you need to meet the academic requirements of a High School Diploma including English 20-2, Math 20-3, and Science 10, or have a GED or CAEC certificate.
You will also need a valid Alberta Class 5 driver's license and must be able to pass a physical abilities test (PAT) and a negative drug and alcohol test, as the trade is safety sensitive. Applicants may need to pass the Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training Entrance Exam.
As an Apprentice advances through their Apprenticeship, they will reach milestones. It is important to note that an Apprentice must complete the period trade hour threshold, reach their period completion date, successfully complete their applicable Technical Training and complete their Blue Book updates/signoff to be eligible for the next step in apprenticeship progression.
Experience
- 0-4 years’ experience as a trades Apprentice involved in high voltage, electrical or distribution construction. Completion of a recognised trade specific pre-employment course and use of hand/power tools is considered an asset for entry level Apprentices.
Skills
- Support Journeypersons with key tasks
- Perform basic trade tasks under Supervision
- Think independently
- Possess the ability to communicate clearly and effectively while building strong relationships with colleagues, and the public.
- Be proficient with power and hand tools
- Exercise proper care for tools and equipment
- Maintain Housekeeping through out site
- Gradually take on more tasks as skills and competency improve
- Continuously improve efficiency and quality of work
Duties
Leadership
- Demonstrate and uphold core Iconic values.
- Coach and model positive behavior in safety, conduct, and mentorship for fellow apprentices.
Operations
- Take direction from Journeypersons, Supervisors and Forepersons
- Participate in daily tailboard/ Safety meetings.
- Complete required daily safety documentation (FLHA).
- Review and adhere to project safety and environmental policies.
- Submit daily timesheets through ADP.
- Collaborate with site leaders to ensure client expectations are met or exceeded.
- Actively learn trade specific skills, tools and processes
- Ask questions to improve understanding and performance relevant to duties
- May require travel to different project locations
