Position Overview
The Electrical Traveling Superintendent is responsible for leading the field execution of large-scale commercial electrical projects. This role oversees daily jobsite operations, field personnel, safety, schedule performance, installation quality, and coordination with the General Contractor, subcontractors, inspectors, and other trades.
Working closely with the Project Manager, the Electrical Superintendent manages labor and material needs, resolves field issues, supports budget and schedule objectives, and ensures electrical work is completed safely, on time, and in accordance with project specifications, applicable codes, and client requirements. This position requires extensive national travel and the ability to lead crews in fast-paced construction environments. Jobsite locations vary based on project needs but are primarily located throughout the Southeast.
Key Responsibilities
Direct daily electrical field operations, assign work, coordinate crews, and ensure personnel have the tools, materials, equipment, and information needed to perform safely and efficientlyLead daily safety briefings, complete Job Hazard Analyses, enforce OSHA and company safety requirements, and stop work immediately when unsafe conditions are identifiedDevelop and maintain three-week lookahead schedules, monitor daily progress, coordinate sequencing with other trades, and implement recovery plans when schedule risks ariseVerify electrical installations comply with drawings, specifications, NEC requirements, local codes, and client quality standardsRead and interpret blueprints, one-line diagrams, panel schedules, shop drawings, specifications, and change ordersTroubleshoot electrical distribution, lighting, controls, and field installation issues while coordinating RFIs and technical resolutionsPerform ongoing quality inspections, manage punch-list items, coordinate required inspections, and reduce rework by identifying deficiencies earlySubmit daily field reports and weekly progress updates documenting manpower, completed work, equipment, delays, risks, and field conditionsForecast labor, material, and equipment needs; verify deliveries; manage secure storage; and coordinate purchase or rental requests with the Project Manager and office teamLead, coach, and evaluate Assistant Superintendents, Foremen, electricians, and traveling craft labor while addressing performance concerns promptlyAttend project coordination meetings and maintain professional communication with clients, General Contractors, inspectors, engineers, vendors, and subcontractorsDocument change conditions and coordinate with the Project Manager before making commitments that affect project cost, scope, or scheduleRequired Experience & Qualifications
7–10+ years of commercial electrical construction experience3-5+ years as Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, or Foreman leading crews of 5+ electricians (required)Experience managing large electrical crews and complex commercial construction projectsJourneyman Electrician License required; Master Electrician License strongly preferredOSHA 30-Hour Construction certification requiredThorough knowledge of NEC, OSHA requirements, electrical safety practices, and applicable state and local codesAdvanced ability to read electrical drawings, specifications, one-line diagrams, panel schedules, and construction documentsStrong troubleshooting experience with power distribution, lighting controls, and basic control systemsDemonstrated ability to manage field schedules, manpower, materials, quality, safety, and trade coordination with limited oversightStrong leadership, communication, documentation, conflict-resolution, and field problem-solving skillsProficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, and mobile devices; experience with Bluebeam, Procore, PlanGrid, or similar systems preferredValid driver’s license with an acceptable driving recordAbility to travel nationally 75–100% and work overtime, weekends, nights, or extended project assignments as requiredPreferred Qualifications (Optional)
