About the Role:

The Nurse Staff Float plays a critical role in providing flexible and high-quality nursing care across multiple departments within a healthcare facility. This position requires adaptability to various clinical settings, ensuring that patient care standards are consistently met regardless of the unit. The Nurse Staff Float supports the healthcare team by filling staffing gaps, responding to fluctuating patient census, and maintaining continuity of care. By working collaboratively with diverse teams, the Nurse Staff Float helps optimize patient outcomes and enhances operational efficiency. Ultimately, this role contributes to a dynamic and responsive healthcare environment that prioritizes patient safety and satisfaction.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice within the United States.
  • Completion of an accredited nursing program (Associate's Degree in Nursing or Bachelor of Science in Nursing).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association or equivalent.
  • Minimum of one year of clinical nursing experience in an acute care or hospital setting.
  • Strong knowledge of nursing principles, patient care standards, and healthcare regulations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree.
  • Advanced certifications such as Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
  • Experience working as a float nurse or in multiple specialty units including medical-surgical, telemetry, or emergency departments.
  • Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic or Cerner.
  • Demonstrated skills in patient education and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct patient care in various hospital units as assigned, adapting quickly to different clinical environments and patient needs.
  • Assess patient conditions, administer medications, and implement nursing interventions according to established protocols and physician orders.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and update individualized care plans, ensuring comprehensive and coordinated care.
  • Document patient information accurately and timely in electronic health records, maintaining confidentiality and compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Respond promptly to patient emergencies and changes in condition, escalating concerns to appropriate medical personnel as necessary.
  • Educate patients and their families on health management, treatment plans, and discharge instructions to promote recovery and wellness.
  • Participate in unit-based meetings, training sessions, and quality improvement initiatives to enhance nursing practices and patient care.
