Job Description

The Onsite Installation Specialist supports URI’s UX research and data collection programs by traveling to residential, commercial, and other real-world environments to install, configure, test, and troubleshoot research-related technology and equipment.

This role combines hands-on technical expertise, field operations, participant interaction, and research protocol execution. Onsite Installation Specialists ensure that hardware, connected devices, electronics, sensors, and home automation technologies are installed correctly and consistently so research teams can collect reliable, high-quality data in natural environments.

The ideal candidate is technically capable, highly detail-oriented, comfortable working independently in the field, and able to create a professional and positive experience for research participants.

Mileage Reimbursement Included

Responsibilities
  • Travel to scheduled participant homes.
  • Set up a Wi-Fi router, three connected devices, and a mobile phone.
  • Follow a simple step-by-step setup guide.
  • Confirm all devices are connected and working properly.
  • Document device placement and completion of the setup.
  • Handle research equipment carefully and maintain confidentiality.
  • Contact the project team if technical issues arise.

Qualifications
  • Comfortable setting up Wi-Fi and consumer electronics.
  • Able to follow detailed instructions consistently.
  • Must be in WA state.
  • Professional and comfortable working in participants’ homes.
  • Reliable transportation and ability to travel locally.
  • Possess a current, state issued drivers license.
  • Comfortable driving around the Seattle area.
  • Posses a working, dependable vehicle.
  • Dependable, organized, and able to communicate clearly.
  • Previous technical experience is helpful but not required.
Preferred Experience
  • UX research, market research, field research, or research operations.
  • Consumer electronics installation or technical field services.
  • Smart home or IoT technology.
  • IT support, networking, AV installation, or device management.
  • Hardware logistics, inventory management, or asset tracking.
  • Experience working directly with research participants, customers, or clients in their homes or workplaces.
