Job Description

Visual Quality Expert (Film, VFX & Animation)

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Visual Quality Expert (Film, VFX & Animation) based in the United States.

This part-time opportunity is designed for a highly experienced visual professional with an exceptionally discerning eye for image quality and visual fidelity.
You will evaluate AI-generated, enhanced, and upscaled images and video at a detailed, pixel-level standard.
Your expertise will help identify subtle artifacts and inconsistencies that may be invisible to the average viewer but critical to professional visual production.
The role spans image fidelity, lighting, color, rendering, sharpness, grain, compression, and other aspects of high-end visual quality.
You will also help establish evaluation frameworks, create testing samples, and translate complex visual observations into structured quality assessments.
Working alongside other visual specialists, you will contribute professional production standards to advanced AI evaluation and benchmarking workflows.
This is a remote engagement of approximately 20 hours per week, with availability overlapping the PST-to-EST working window.

Accountabilities
  • Evaluate high-resolution images and video frame by frame and at the pixel level, identifying compression artifacts, noise, aliasing, banding, inconsistent grain, color issues, sharpening defects, and other visual imperfections.
  • Assess AI-generated, enhanced, and upscaled visual outputs against professional standards for image fidelity, consistency, realism, and production quality.
  • Apply specialized knowledge of lighting, color, rendering, image formation, photographic quality, and visual perception when evaluating visual outputs.
  • Identify subtle technical and perceptual defects that may be overlooked by less experienced reviewers.
  • Develop and refine visual-quality evaluation frameworks, rating criteria, review templates, and guidelines to promote consistency across reviewers and challenging edge cases.
  • Translate complex visual observations into precise, structured language suitable for evaluation datasets, annotations, captions, benchmarking, and quality-assessment workflows.
  • Generate or curate visual samples for targeted testing, benchmarking, side-by-side comparisons, and model evaluation.
  • Collaborate with other visual-quality specialists and program teams to establish and maintain consistent evaluation standards across images and video sequences.
  • Review and compare visual outputs systematically, explaining why specific results meet or fall short of professional quality expectations.
  • Contribute professional visual-production expertise to AI evaluation workflows involving image enhancement, upscaling, generative imagery, and video.
  • Help identify emerging quality patterns and challenging visual edge cases that can strengthen future evaluation processes and benchmarks.
Requirements
  • 5+ years of professional experience in high-end visual production, evaluation, or image-quality assessment within film, VFX, animation, cinematography, rendering, or professional photography.
  • Demonstrated professional expertise in at least one relevant discipline, such as VFX supervision, rendering supervision, lighting, color grading, cinematography, effects, surfacing, professional photography, directing, or digital projection.
  • Strong understanding of visual perception, lighting, image fidelity, rendering, color, sharpness, image formation, and digital image quality.
  • Proven ability to conduct detailed visual comparisons and detect subtle inconsistencies, artifacts, and quality issues that may not be immediately apparent to an average viewer.
  • Experience reviewing final imagery, dailies, rendered outputs, photographic work, compositing, lighting, textures, materials, or other professional visual content.
  • Formal education or professional training in film, visual effects, animation, photography, digital media, or a related discipline is preferred.
  • Familiarity with AI-powered creative tools and workflows, including the ability to generate or curate visual samples for testing and comparison.
  • Experience with AI-generated imagery, image enhancement, upscaling, generative video, or visual evaluation workflows is a strong advantage.
  • Reliable access to a 4K-resolution monitor or professional display capable of supporting detailed, pixel-level visual evaluation.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and a highly developed visual judgment grounded in professional production standards.
  • Excellent English communication skills, with the ability to describe complex visual observations accurately, clearly, and consistently.
  • Strong analytical and observational skills, combined with the ability to apply structured evaluation criteria across varied visual content.
  • Ability to work reliably for approximately 20 hours per week with sufficient availability to overlap the PST-to-EST working window.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with other specialists and program teams in a remote environment.
Benefits
  • Competitive compensation of $60–$90 per hour.
  • Part-time engagement of approximately 20 hours per week.
  • Fully remote work arrangement within the United States.
  • Opportunity to apply professional expertise in film, VFX, animation, cinematography, rendering, or photography to advanced AI development and evaluation.
  • Exposure to cutting-edge generative AI, image enhancement, upscaling, and visual benchmarking workflows.
  • Opportunity to contribute directly to the development and evaluation of advanced AI models through specialized visual expertise.
  • Flexible engagement structure within the agreed PST-to-EST working-hour overlap.
  • Collaborative environment alongside experienced visual-quality specialists and AI program teams.
