Job Description
Responsible for conducting the non-destructive testing procedure on casting samples to ensure that physical properties meet product specifications, under the direct supervision of the Quality Control Manager.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Conduct tests on castings to ensure quality or detect discontinuities (defects) like internal fractures, corrosion, impurities and similar defects in metal using NDT methods of inspection.
• Examine and test the physical properties of materials and components to determine their strength, hardness, toughness or other properties of metal, which could affect their performance and reliability.
• Select, calibrate, or operate equipment used in the non-destructive testing (NDT) of products or materials.
• Sort castings according to types of defects and select the appropriate method and technique for NDT inspection.
• Identify defects in solid materials using magnetic particle testing by lining up magnetic particles along the cracks and defects.
• Conduct liquid penetrant tests to locate surface cracks by coating objects with fluorescent dyes like zyglo or magnaflux, cleaning excess penetrant, and applying developer.
• Produce radiographic images to detect flaws in objects while leaving objects intact.
• Visually examine materials, structures, or components using tools and equipment.
• Use testing processes that do not damage the structure of the object being tested.
• Interpret or evaluate test results in accordance with applicable codes, standards, specifications, or procedures.
• Document and prepare reports on non-destructive testing (NDT) methods, processes, or results.
• Follow and maintain established quality standard for aftercast department.
• Responsible for departmental safety and housekeeping.
• Perform related duties as assigned.
Requirements:Education and Experience Requirements/Preferences:
• Training in vocational schools, related on-the-job experience, or a 2 years associate's degree in NDT Technology. NDT Level – I Certified by the American Society for Nondestructive Testing is preferred.
• Previous work-related skill, knowledge, or experience is required for this occupation, preferably in the casting industry.
• Some training preferred for on-the-job experience and informal training.
