Job Description

Director of Product

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Director of Product based in United States.

As Director of Product, you will own the product operating model from strategy and discovery through delivery, adoption, and measurable business outcomes. You will lead a team of Product Managers embedded within cross-functional pods and establish the practices, decision rights, and accountability needed to deliver effectively. Reporting to the COO, you will connect customer needs, business priorities, technical strategy, UX, data, and execution into a cohesive product direction. You will own the annual roadmap and quarterly planning process while ensuring teams prioritize evidence and outcomes over feature volume. The role also includes shaping AI-enabled product opportunities, strengthening technical product leadership, and improving delivery health. This is a high-impact leadership opportunity for an experienced product executive who enjoys building strong teams and turning strategy into action.

Accountabilities:
  • Own outcome accountability across product pods, establishing clear missions, success metrics, guardrails, decision rights, operating cadences, and shared accountability across Product, UX, and Engineering.
  • Resolve cross-pod dependencies, sequencing conflicts, and platform-versus-feature tradeoffs while maintaining clear escalation and decision-making processes.
  • Lead, coach, develop, hire, and retain Product Managers while strengthening product management capabilities across discovery, customer problem definition, experimentation, prioritization, and delivery.
  • Translate company strategy into a product strategy supported by a north star metric and metric tree, ensuring product teams connect their work to measurable customer and business outcomes.
  • Establish consistent customer research, usability, experimentation, analytics, and evidence-based prioritization practices across product teams.
  • Build direct exposure to professional tradespeople and internal users into product development and balance investment across growth, platform health, and exploratory initiatives.
  • Own the annual product roadmap and quarterly planning process, including OKRs, capacity modeling, prioritization, tradeoffs, and executive alignment.
  • Maintain a clear, prioritized backlog with strong definitions of readiness and completion, while distinguishing committed work from discovery, experimentation, and future opportunities.
  • Establish delivery discipline across major initiatives, including scope, milestones, ownership, dependencies, risks, launch criteria, stakeholder alignment, and post-launch evaluation.
  • Coordinate cross-functional execution across Product, IT, UX, AI enablement, Marketing, Merchandising, Operations, Customer Service, Data, and other relevant teams.
  • Improve delivery health through metrics such as cycle time, throughput, and predictability while eliminating processes that do not improve decision-making or execution.
  • Partner with IT and engineering leadership on architecture, security, reliability, scalability, technical debt, platform modernization, integrations, APIs, and other technical dependencies.
  • Evaluate build, buy, and partner opportunities based on customer value, business impact, technical feasibility, implementation risk, cost, and long-term maintainability.
  • Partner with AI leadership to identify, evaluate, prioritize, and scale AI opportunities across customer-facing products and internal workflows.
  • Ensure AI-enabled products have clear users, outcomes, success measures, data requirements, adoption plans, security considerations, and responsible-use practices.
  • Establish product analytics, instrumentation, and reporting that enable reliable measurement of adoption, customer behavior, operational impact, and business results.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Economics, Data Analytics, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience; an MBA or other advanced degree is preferred.
  • 10+ years of product management experience, including 4+ years directly managing Product Managers; experience managing managers is a plus.
  • Demonstrated experience owning and improving measurable business metrics and outcomes rather than managing only product backlogs or feature roadmaps.
  • Strong technical fluency across e-commerce platforms, APIs, integrations, data flows, enterprise systems, and platform dependencies, with the ability to evaluate technical tradeoffs and build credibility with engineering leaders.
  • Experience leading complex, cross-functional initiatives involving Product, Engineering, UX, Data, and business stakeholders from discovery through launch and adoption.
  • Experience working within pod, squad, or cross-functional operating models and establishing decision rights across teams that do not report to the same leader.
  • Strong understanding of user research, experience design, analytics, experimentation, product adoption, and evidence-based product development.
  • Experience evaluating or scaling AI-enabled products and emerging technology capabilities is preferred.
  • Experience balancing customer-facing investments with platform health, technical debt, security, reliability, and scalability.
  • Strong product delivery and program leadership skills, with the ability to introduce effective discipline without creating unnecessary process or slowing execution.
  • Excellent executive communication skills, including the ability to explain tradeoffs using evidence, align senior stakeholders, and communicate decisions clearly and respectfully.
  • Comfortable operating in ambiguous environments with a focus on experimentation, learning, and execution.
  • Experience in e-commerce, marketplaces, or B2B distribution is preferred; familiarity with trade or industrial customers is a plus.

Benefits:

  • Starting base salary of $193,389–$276,270 annually, within a full position range of $193,389–$359,151.
  • Comprehensive and affordable medical, dental, vision, and voluntary life insurance options.
  • 401(k) plan with up to 4% company match.
  • Paid vacation, sick time, and holidays.
  • Company-paid basic life insurance and long-term disability coverage.
  • Discounted auto, home, and pet insurance programs.
  • Flexible Spending Account (FSA).
  • Employee Assistance Program providing confidential mental health, financial planning, and legal support.
  • Company-provided equipment and a one-time $250 work-from-home stipend.
  • $750 annual professional development budget.
  • $25 monthly Grubhub credit.
  • Company rewards and recognition program.
  • Flexible work arrangements and wellness initiatives.
  • Annual merit and bonus opportunities, hands-on training, internal mobility, and professional development opportunities.
  • Volunteer Paid Time Off and opportunities to support nonprofit organizations and community initiatives.
  • Remote work within eligible US states, with travel to headquarters in Melville, New York approximately six times per year for internal meetings and team-building activities.
  • Reasonable and necessary travel expenses reimbursed for required headquarters visits.
