QUALIFICATIONS:
CurrentRegistered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Idaho or ability toobtain/maintain required licensure. Two years’ experience in infection control,healthcare epidemiology, employee health, nursing, or a related field required.Knowledge of Department of Health and Human Services, Health Resource ServicesAdministration, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, Centers for DiseaseControl, and Occupational Safety Health Association's policies or guidelines.This knowledge will enable the Infection Preventionist to ensure infectionprevention practices meet the requirements of the above agencies. Knowledge ofpublic health principles, including surveillance and prevention of acquiredinfections. Knowledge of professional nursing principles, practices andprocedures. Must complete cross-training and maintain competency in applicableNursing Department functions. Knowledge of regulatory agency standards onInfection Prevention issues, including AAAHC Standards, CDC Guidelines, AAMIGuidelines and Nursing Professional recommendations from organizations. Annualtraining and continued education in infection control required. Knowledge ofprinciples of epidemiology, utilization of scientific methods, and applicationof basic statistical concepts for research methodology including design, datacollection, and analysis required for interpreting current research articles oninfection prevention issues. Knowledge of and skills to apply principles ofinterpersonal relationships, communication, and group dynamics in working withindividuals and groups toward establishing standards and planning forcorrective actions. Knowledge of and skill in applying management principles,including management by objectives to affect change and improvement clinicalpractice. Knowledge of educational and training principles, techniques andpractices related to planning, development, implementation and evaluation ofinfection control in-services, annual infection prevention training, and newemployee orientation programs. Ability to communicate, verbally and in writing,to conduct presentations and prepare written reports. BLS certificationrequired. ACLS and PALS required within 6 months of hire. APIC InfectionControl and Prevention Training Completion required within 6 months of hire.Proficient in typing and Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or similarplatforms. Valid driver’s license required.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Serveas a resource for all departments regarding infection prevention and controlpractices.
Overseethe annual maintenance and implementation of the Infection Control Plan andExposure Control Plan.
Maintaincompliance with CDC guidelines and applicable federal, state, tribal, andregulatory requirements, including requirements related to tuberculosis, AAAHC,CMS, and OSHA.
Providescurrent information from government/private organizations, i.e., AAAHC, CDC,
OSHA,etc., on standards that relate to infection prevention and implement thosechanges.
Monitorcompliance with infection prevention policies, procedures, and standards.
Identifyopportunities for improvement and collaborate with leadership to implementcorrective actions.
Providesleadership and oversight of the ICRA (Infection Control Risk Assessment)before, during, and after minor and major construction projects in occupiedspaces, to assure appropriate infection control measures are in place.
Participatein quality improvement activities related to infection prevention and patientand employee safety.
Networkswith other Infection Preventionist through the Association of Professionals inInfection Control (APIC).
Monitor andinvestigate potential infection exposures or outbreaks among staff andpatients.
Consults with theLaboratory Department on any presumptive or confirmed antibiotic-resistantorganisms, and/or any other organism of epidemiologic importance. Adviseshealth care providers as to appropriate isolation techniques and treatmentgiven.
Conduct infectionsurveillance and epidemiologic investigations as appropriate.
Assists the Medicaland Dental department with development and monitoring of sterilization and disinfectionprocesses. Determines the effectiveness of their procedures used to controlcross contamination and provides compliance monitoring
Assists EnvironmentalServices supervisor with the development and monitoring of facility contracts forlinen, infectious waste, and other housekeeping issues as they relate toinfection prevention. Determines the effectiveness of their procedures used tocontrol cross contamination. Consults with other disciplines concerningdisinfection and sterilization procedures and compliance monitoring.
Participate in the planning ofbuilding and capital works redesign processes, waste management andenvironmental cleaning.
Ensure accurate and timelyreporting of communicable diseases to applicable state and regulatory agencies.
Track trends in infection dataand identify opportunities for risk reduction.
Maintain appropriate infectionprevention and surveillance records.
Provide quarterly updates to theQI Manager for inclusion in Health Board reports.
Assist with investigations,documentation, follow-up, and mitigation of infection-related events
Educate all staff on infectionprevention and control principles, including standard and transmission-basedprecautions.
Ensure employees receivetraining on hand hygiene, PPE use, sharps safety, respiratory hygiene, anddisease-specific precautions.
Coordinate with HR and QI toinclude infection control training in new employee orientation.
Provide ongoing education basedon identified risks, trends, exposures, and regulatory requirements.
Maintain documentation ofrequired infection prevention education and training
Identify infection risksassociated with staff job duties and implement appropriate prevention measures.
Provide guidance duringinfectious disease outbreaks, exposures, pandemics, or other emergentsituations.
Collaborate with NursingManager, Lab Manager, and Tribal Environmental Health Specialist regardinginfection prevention and response.
Collaborate with the SafetyOfficer and Emergency Preparedness teams during drills and emergency events.
Assist with development andimplementation of outbreak response plans and mitigation strategies.
Present infection trends, riskassessments, surveillance data, and prevention strategies at applicablecommittee meetings.
Coordinate with clinicalleadership to implement infection control improvements based on committeefindings.
Participate in qualityimprovement and patient safety initiatives as assigned
Manages and directs the EmployeeHealth Program, which includes disease
detection and prevention;follow-up on employee illnesses and injuries and return-to-work processes andcoordinate modified duty or medical leave processes as appropriate; conduct andpromote a safe work environment
Conduct employee andpre-employment health screenings/ attend new employee orientation.
Coordinate and administeremployee immunizations, TB testing, and annual N95 fit testing.
Initiates or participates in thereview and improvement of work methods to achieve optimum productivity.
Assures Employee Health Programpolicies and procedures are current per the guidance of the CDC, ACIP (AdvisoryCommittee on Immunization Practices), OSHA, and AAAHC accreditation standards.
Establishes, maintains, andsecures Employee Health Records per established OSHA standards for the purposeof documentation of Healthcare Workers immunization (TB/MMR, etc.) andscreening status and for the purpose of documentation of blood borne pathogen(BBP) exposure incidents and BBP management follow-up.
Provides initial and annual BBPExposure training in accordance with OSHA guidelines for employee BBP training.
Manages and implements theRespiratory Protection Program (RPP)/N-95 through direct provision of RPPdocumentation for medical clearance for respirator use status, initial andannual respiratory protection training, fit testing status, and service area rostersof staff RPP status.
Identifies training anddevelopment needs of staff and makes recommendations.
Maintains knowledge andcompetency within the Employee Health program requirements to maintaincontinuity of the Infection Prevention and Control Program.
Implements, maintains, andevaluates data, information systems and processes to meet regulatoryrequirements for infection control and employee health
Maintain accurate, confidentialemployee health records/database in accordance with HIPAA and applicable lawsand regulations.
Provide education and resourcesrelated to occupational health, wellness, infection prevention, and workplacesafety.
Plan and coordinate the annualCOVID-19 and influenza vaccine clinic for Marimn Health employees.
Coordinate and assist COVID-19and influenza vaccine clinics for Tribal entities.
Collaborate with ClinicalLeadership and Human Resources during outbreaks, exposures, pandemics, andother employee health events.
The Registered Nurse /InfectionControl and Employee Health Coordinator will be cross trained within theNursing Department to provide clinical support and nursing coverage whenoperational needs require additional staffing. Cross training is intended topromote continuity of patient care and provide flexibility during periods ofshort staffing, unexpected employee absences, increased patient volume,emergencies, or other circumstances that create a need for additional nursingsupport.
When assigned to NursingDepartment coverage, responsibilities may include:
Provide direct patient carewithin the RN’s scope of practice, licensure, training, and demonstratedcompetency.
Assist with nursing assessments,triage, patient education, care coordination, and other appropriate nursingfunctions.
Assist the Nursing Departmentwith routine clinical operations and patient flow.
Administer medications andtreatments in accordance with applicable policies, procedures, provider orders,and scope of practice.
Assist with patient monitoring,documentation, and follow-up.
Provide coverage for nursingstaff during scheduled or unscheduled absences when assigned.
Respond to urgent or emergentclinical situations within the RN’s training and competency.
Collaborate with providers,nursing staff, and other members of the healthcare team to ensure safe andeffective patient care.
Maintain competency in requiredNursing Department functions through orientation, cross-training, education,and periodic competency assessment.
Follow all applicable nursingpolicies, procedures, standards of care, and regulatory requirements whileproviding cross-coverage.
Cross-training and NursingDepartment coverage will be coordinated with the Nursing Manager or designatedClinical Leadership
