RN Critical Care Fellow
Position Overview
The RN Fellow position is designed for Registered Nurses who do not yet have the specialty experience required for this clinical area. As an RN Fellow, you will receive an extended orientation and, when applicable, participate in additional specialty-specific education. This enhanced onboarding and learning experience is designed to build confidence, strengthen clinical skills, and support a successful transition into the specialty practice environment.
Schedule: Straight night shift or variable shift (8 week days/8 weeks nights rotation)
Critical Care Highlights
- 26-bed ICU featuring two specialized 13-bed units: Trauma–Neuro ICU and Cardiac ICU
- Medical ICU patients managed across both units, providing broad exposure to diverse, high-acuity populations
- Care includes sepsis, respiratory failure, multi-organ dysfunction, and other complex conditions
- Integrated care model fosters cross-specialty expertise and a highly collaborative team environment
- ACS Level II Trauma Center designation
- Advanced support with VA and VV ECMO, including bridge-to-recovery capability
- 24/7 on-site intensivist coverage for all ICU patients
- Dedicated Rapid Response Team staffed by critical care nurses

Specialty Focus Areas
- Trauma–Neuro ICU:
- Care for patients with severe trauma, neurologic injuries, and complex neurocritical conditions in a fast‑paced, high‑stakes environment.
- Cardiac ICU:
- Specialized care for patients with advanced cardiac disease, cardiogenic shock, and post‑cardiothoracic surgical recovery.
Essential Responsibilities
- Assists physicians during examinations and procedures
- Performs patient assessments, diagnostic testing, and medication administration within RN scope of practice
- Promotes patient independence by establishing care goals and providing education to patients and families regarding conditions, medications, and self-care skills
- Performs a variety of clinical and support tasks as required
- Demonstrates creativity, critical thinking, and professional judgment in clinical practice
- Maintains familiarity with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the specialty area
- Ensures regular and predictable attendance
- Demonstrates competence in meeting age-specific needs of the assigned patient population
- Performs other related duties as assigned
Requirements & Minimum Qualifications
- Graduate of a nationally accredited Nursing program required
- Licensed RN with a minimum 3 years’ patient-facing RN experience at time of hire, ADN or diploma required; BSN or higher preferred
- All non-BSN RN's with less than 3 years’ patient-facing RN experience at time of hire are required to be enrolled in a baccalaureate (or higher) degree program in nursing within 1 year of employment, with completion within 3 years of hire
- State of Idaho Registered Nurse OR licensure pending as documented by temporary licensure OR current RN licensure from a state participating in the “multistate privilege to practice” compact with Idaho prior to start date
- BLS required
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and move up to 35 pounds
- Ability to stand for extended periods
- Ability to stoop, crouch, bend, push, pull, and transport equipment
- Ability to assist with patient transfers
- Regular use of clinical and medical equipment
- Exposure to needles, blood, body fluids, and other clinical hazards
