Position Summary
The Financial Services Specialist is responsible for a variety of complex clerical and accounting duties related to patient billing. This includes verifying invoice information, maintaining third party billing records, and resolving various billing-related issues.
Requirements:Description of Primary Attributes
1) Customer Service Responsibilities
a) Provide courteous and efficient support services to patients in alignment with Palms Medical Group (PMG) policies and procedures.
b) Answer, screen and route telephone calls in a polite and professional manner (within 3 rings).
c) Operate multiline telephone systems effectively, including transferring calls, managing voicemail, and queue handling.
d) Research and respond to patient billing inquiries via phone or in writing.
Maintain thorough knowledge of PMG departments and services. Insurance filing Responsibilities
a) Submit all insurance claims, including but not limited to worker’s comp, Medicare, Medicaid, private carriers and contractual arrangements in accordance with the policies and procedures of PMG.
b) Identify and investigate changes in reimbursement patterns, report findings to the VP of Financial Services.
c) Maintain files on claim forms and explanation of benefits
d) Submit private insurance claims electronically or by mail; ensure billing accuracy in accordance with the PMG’s policies and procedures.
2) Stay current on all insurance carrier guidelines. Billing Responsibilities
a) Process billing to patients and third-party reimbursement claims; maintains supporting documentation files and current patient addresses.
b) Process patient statements, keys data, posts transactions and validate accuracy in reports.
c) Monitor unpaid claims, submit tracers, and follow up as needed; resubmit claims as necessary.
d) . Reconcile receipts with patient and third-party payments; post and apply payments to accounts
e) Manage accounts receivable, including follow-up on outstanding balances and unpaid claims in accordance with the policies and procedures of PMG.
3) Administrative Duties
a) Adhere to PMG’s Accounting Policy Manual.
b) Provide backup for front desk data entry to including patient registration, visit details, and billing updates.
c) Manage sliding fee program eligibility and recordkeeping to ensure compliance Prepare collection reports and ensure timely distribution of patient correspondence. Participate in QA/QI and other meetings as requested.
d) Perform MIS duties in the absence of the VP Financial Service’s (daily, monthly and annual reports).
e) Provide financial reports to the CFO, including, month end, provider productivity, depreciation, etc.
f) Support the CFO with collections, audits, surveys, and grant applications. Perform any other duty assigned by the Financial Services Coordinator, VP of Financial Services, CFO or CEO to improve the efficiency of PMG.

2) Employee will be expected to navigate and operate Microsoft Office suite products, including Word and Excel
Licenses & Certifications:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- ICD-9 and ICD-10 Certification
- Two years prior experience in CPT, medical billing and insurance filing

- Effectively communicates complex and/or technical information to co-workers, patients and/or vendors
