About This Position

POSITION SUMMARY
The School of Nursing at Avila University invites applications for adjunct clinical instructor positions for various placements for Spring, Summer, and Fall semesters. Clinical adjunct instructors may include the following placements (in-patient environment only): Critical Care, Medical Surgical/Telemetry, Mental Health, Pediatrics, Obstetrics (OB). Placements occur on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.

Responsibilities:
• Clinical adjunct instructors may include the following placements (in-patient environment only):
o Critical Care
o Medical Surgical/Telemetry
o Mental Health
o Pediatrics (Peds)
o Obstetrics (OB)
• Provide instruction, activities, assignments, assessments, and feedback to adequately cover all objectives for the specific course(s) taught.
• Deliver content using effectual methods which are appropriate to students with differing abilities, levels of preparation, and cultural experience.
• Work effectively with the program Chair and/or the Laboratory Manager.
• Remote appointments possible depending on course needs and at the discretion of the Dean.
• Perform other duties as needed related to assigned courses.
Mentorship and Support:
o Serve as a mentor and resource for student teachers, offering guidance on lesson planning, curriculum development, and instructional strategies.
o Assist student teachers in navigating challenges encountered during their teaching placements, offering support and solutions as needed.
o Foster a supportive and collaborative learning environment where student teachers feel encouraged to reflect on their practice and continuously improve.
Collaboration and Coordination:
o Collaborate with university faculty, cooperating teachers, and school administrators to ensure alignment between coursework and practical teaching experiences.
o Coordinate logistics related to student teacher placements, including scheduling observations, arranging meetings, and facilitating communication between stakeholders.
o Participate in regular meetings and professional development activities to stay updated on best practices in teacher education and supervision.
Professional Development:
o Engage in ongoing professional development to enhance expertise in educational theory, instructional methods, and assessment practices.
o Stay informed about current trends and research in teacher education, incorporating relevant knowledge into supervision practices.
o Pursue opportunities for professional growth and networking within the field of education.
Administrative Duties:
o Maintain accurate records of student teacher observations, evaluations, and progress reports.
o Ensure compliance with licensure requirements and accreditation standards related to student teaching placements.
o Assist in the coordination of programmatic assessments and evaluations to monitor the effectiveness of the student teaching program.

Qualifications:
• Master’s degree in nursing
o BSN degree with concurrent enrollment in a Master’s in nursing program may be considered. Attendance at the Clinical Faculty Academy (CFA) is required. For information on CFA please visit https://kchealthcareers.com/clinical-faculty-academy.
• Current or past clinical expertise in designated setting.
• Prior clinical teaching experience preferred.
• Knowledge of or willingness to learn Canvas LMS or similar computer classroom management system.
• Missouri nursing license required. Kansas license (or multi-state license) required if clinical placement is in Kansas.
• Demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching.
• Teaching experience with a diverse population (preferred).
• Experience with a Learning Management System such as Canvas (preferred).
• Experience with effective methods for engaging students through online learning (preferred)
• Ability to contribute to a climate that supports a diverse student body, serves first-generation college students, multilingual learners, and contributions to equity and social justice through their work.
• Multilingual skills highly preferred.
