Job Description
Statement of Purpose: Reports directly to the Director of Perioperative Services. The MBS Weight Center Coordinator shares responsibility and accountability for the overall leadership and direction of the Center services with the MBS Directors. The MBS Coordinator serves as a liaison between the facility and all surgeons performing metabolic and bariatric surgery at the center and if applicable all general surgeons providing call coverage. The Metabolic Bariatric Surgical Clinical Reviewer (MBSCR) is part of the role of the MBS coordinator. The MBS Coordinator collaborates with the Chief of Surgery in maintaining the documentation of the call schedule provided by all covering surgeons. The MBS Coordinator supports the development of written protocols and education of nurses detailing the rapid communication and basic response to critical vital signs that is specially required to minimize delays in the diagnosis and treatment of serious adverse events. The MBS Weight Center Coordinator is responsible for planning, organizing, conducting and directing the medical, nutritional, behavioral, and surgical aspects throughout the continuum of care, and evaluating these processes to assure high quality, cost effective and patient focused results. The Program Coordinator is actively involved in assuring compliance to existing standards of weight management care, including relevant peer-reviewed literature, the American College of Surgeons/ASMBS, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid, the Joint Commission for Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, and other oversight bodies as applicable to weight management including bariatric surgery. The MBS Coordinator position is fully integrated into the organizational framework and has the authority and resources to fulfill all duties.
Qualifications:
Education: Graduate of Accredited School of Nursing.
Certification/license: Current RN Licensure in Massachusetts- current CPR skills
Experience: Prefer three to five years of appropriate specialty care in Bariatrics
