Nurse Extern in Thomaston, Georgia at Upson Regional Medical Center

Under the direct supervision of the RN, the nurse extern renders routine nursing care and specific treatments to patients within the framework of established standards. The nurse extern must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to plan and to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on the assigned unit. The nurse extern is paired with an RN in order to assist him/her in the development of their patient assessment and patient care skills; they cannot perform complex treatments nor administer medications.

• Must be currently enrolled in last year of an accredited RN nursing program and have completed 2nd semester of patient care skills in nursing program (or) be enrolled in nursing program as CNA.
• GPA of at least 3.0
• Essay (at least 300 words) explaining why you want to be a nurse
• Completion of interview process and background check
• Submission of skills checklist from nursing program
• Works at least 12 hours per pay period
• BLS certification
