The City of Minot is accepting applications for the position of Building Inspector I in the Building Safety Department. This position is open to all qualified internal and external applicants and will remain open until filled.
Nature of Work
This is responsible technical work involving the inspection of buildings and building construction for conformity to municipal and national building codes and other regulations, and the inspection of residential properties and the enforcement of housing codes. Individual positions specialized in particular areas of building inspection such as plumbing, electrical, and mechanical. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Building Inspector II/Building Official. Please see the attached job description for complete details.
Education, Experience, Other Requirements
- Graduation from high school and five years of experience in the construction industry.
- Possession of a valid North Dakota driver’s license.
- Possession of, or ability to obtain within one year of employment, certification as a residential building inspector from the International Code Council.
Compensation and Benefits
- The assigned salary range for the position of Building Inspector I under the 2026 City of Minot Annual Pay Plan is a Grade 58, which is an earning potential of $25.54- $37.91 per hour ($53,113- $78,847 annually)
- This is a full time, FLSA Non-Exempt position eligible for overtime.

Veterans’ Preference
