Job Description
JOB SUMMARY
The Dietary Aide supports the mission of providing quality healthcare to the patients of WhidbeyHealth and Clinics by providing the highest level of service in the preparation and delivery of food services to patients, families, staff and all members of the community. The Dietary Aide is responsible for maintaining a clean and sanitary environment while assisting with food preparation, serving, and cashiering in the West Wind Cafe, delivering trays to patient care areas and is expected to be a professional and personable representative of the organization in all interactions.
PRINCIPLE FUNCTIONS include the following, other duties may be assigned:
- Operates a variety of kitchen utensils for preparing, serving and storing food.
- Prepares and serves sandwiches, which includes slicing meats and cheeses, and prepares salads.
- Stores left over food according to regulations and department procedures.
- Provide assistance to customers including patients, family, staff and community members with questions regarding food preparation and menu. Handling complaints of service or food appropriately.
- Prepares and set up stations with bread, salads, beverages, condiments, and utensils.
- Serves and replenishes food from counters and steam tables, sometimes using a conveyor food belt.
- Breaks down stations at the end of meal periods following verbal or written instructions.
- Brews coffee and tea.
- Lift and move necessary supplies, equipment, furniture, and food.
- Taste products to ensure quality of product being served, read menus and recipes, and check production.
- Prepare for service before meals and clean after meal to ensure a quality presentable appearance of the dining room and serving area.
- Operates cash register; receives payment of cash, checks and charges from customers for goods or services, makes change, and issues receipts.
- Endorses checks and verifies cash at the beginning of the shift.
- Understands and follows cash handling policies and procedures and maintains proper security of cash at all times.
- Keeps record and requisitions for supplies/equipment as needed.
- Ware-washing both manual and automatic, following proper sanitary procedures.
- Cleans and sanitizes workstations, counters, steam tables, and other equipment.
- Prepares catering requests.
- Utilizes electronic medical record system to print off patient diet census.
- Follows all hospital and regulatory agency rules regarding food safety and physical safety.
- May assist with training of new staff to the Food & Nutrition Svcs department.
JOB KNOWLEDGE & QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Highest level of education completed, minimum high school diploma or equivalent required.
Training and Experience
- One (1) year of restaurant or food handling experience preferred.
- Knowledge of various hospital-based diets.
- Knowledge of food production and storage.
- Must have the ability to use a variety of kitchen equipment.
- Must possess effective professional interpersonal skills as well as excellent service skills in all interactions with the ability to communicate effectively on the phone, in person and in writing.
- Must demonstrate the ability to accept and process payments and maintain integrity of cash drawer.
- Must be able to plan, prioritize and organize work assigned within communicated deadlines.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Current Food Handler’s Permit required.
