Based on our internal equity review process, the starting for this position will be $100,642.03 yearly.
To allow for growth and salary progression the full yearly range is $100,642.03- $137,778.89 annually. Employees will have the opportunity to move through the posted range based on annual performance reviews and merit increases.

Position Information
The Cybersecurity Systems Administrator will play a critical role in safeguarding and supporting our district's technology infrastructure. Working in close collaboration with district Information Technology Supervisors, this position will implement and administer district-wide cybersecurity initiatives. Key responsibilities include the installation, monitoring, and maintenance of security software and hardware, threat and vulnerability hunting, and helping develop security posture policies and procedures. The Cybersecurity Systems Administrator will also perform hands-on configuration changes for application software, operating systems, and computer hardware in a complex, networked environment to eliminate potential vulnerabilities. The role requires a strong understanding of information security principles, system administration, and multi-platform technology integration. Additionally, the position involves leading complex IT and cybersecurity projects, mentoring systems administrators and other technical staff, and contributing to strategic planning efforts.

  • Participate in planning, research and design of security architecture.
  • Oversee security improvements to IT infrastructure, including networks, systems, databases, and applications.
  • Provide technical support, lead projects, mentor staff, coordinate with vendors, and maintain documentation, policies and procedures.
  • Administer, maintain and monitor security and event management software deployed within existing systems; design and create scheduled reports for security activity, dashboard views of event logs, customized alert rules to notify of immediate concerns; and training staff to utilize those tools to provide greater visibility into our security.
  • Advise internal customers on best cybersecurity practices when implementing new technologies; assist supervisor with developing and maintaining security assessment criteria and conduct security assessments of new products or services.
  • Research new security tools related to systems being supported and evaluate those products for purchase, while identifying how new technology will fit into existing infrastructure.
  • Write and review internal documentation, gather information to meet regulatory requirements, and develop and maintain technical documentation, diagrams, and drawings.
  • Assist supervisor with security consultations, audits and assessments, including event analysis and security engineering; administer intrusion detection systems; coordinate with vendor services to evaluate potential intrusions and response activities while using advanced techniques to detect and analyze threats.
  • Operate a motorized vehicle to travel to multiple locations to carry out essential duties. Adhere to all driving laws and safety rules.
  • Other duties as required.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, cyber security or related field required.
  • Four years of technical and professional experience in cyber security required.
  • An additional four years of related experience can substitute for the degree requirement.
  • Additional certifications may substitute for a portion of the degree requirement on a case-by-case basis.
  • Experience with the management of e-mail security systems required.
  • Experience with the deployment, configuration and management of endpoint protection systems required.
  • Experience with the design and deployment of multi-factor authentication systems required.
  • Experience with vulnerability scanning tools and vulnerability mitigation required.

LICENSE & OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
  • Information technology security certifications such as GIAC GSEC or CompTIA Security+ desired.
  • Valid Washington driver's license with an acceptable driving record required.

ENVIRONMENT:
  • Indoor environment, with occasional work in confined spaces to access equipment.
  • Work in construction areas to support IT needs for new and remodeled areas may be required. Ability to work after normal business hours, including weekends, for customer support, a scheduled function, project implementation, or in an on-call capacity as required.
  • Driving a vehicle to install and/or maintain equipment, or to support users at remote sites.

PHYSICAL ABILITIES:
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard and handle small hand tools used to repair computer hardware.
  • Lifting and carrying computers and peripheral equipment weighing up to 40 pounds.
  • Kneeling, crouching, bending, and reaching to install equipment. Visually troubleshoot and analyze computer malfunctions.
HAZARDS:
  • Extended viewing of a computer display, and repetitive use of a computer keyboard.
  • Contact with dissatisfied or abusive individuals.
KNOWLEDGE OF:
  • Network security and threat management principles and techniques, including multi-factor authentication. Backup systems, disaster recovery planning and procedures.
  • Network technologies include hardware, topologies, operations and management, security, software installation and configuration.
  • Currently supported versions of Windows Server, Desktop and SQL.
  • Microsoft Office 365 and Microsoft Intune.
  • VoIP telecommunications setup and maintenance.
  • Microsoft Office setup, configuration and operation, including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Methodologies that are commonly used to troubleshoot computer hardware or software problems.
  • Prepare, utilize, and maintain documentation relating to IT systems, logs, diagrams, and procedures.
  • Aptitude with scripting languages for automation and PowerShell applications.
  • Understanding of ADFS, Azure AD Connect, and other external authentication methods.
ABILITY TO:
  • Operate computers and peripheral equipment properly and efficiently.
  • Make routine equipment adjustments and perform routine maintenance.
  • Troubleshoot and repair system malfunctions to maintain system operation.
  • Analyze security requirements and establish appropriate security systems.
  • Communicate technical concepts and procedures to users in easily understandable and non-technical terms.
  • Perform backups.
  • Maintain routine records, logs and lists.
  • Maintain technical fluency through journals, conferences, and periodicals.
  • Manage time efficiently and effectively through scheduling and prioritizing.
  • Work within and contribute to the effectiveness of a team, respecting differences.
