Summary of the role:

The Co-Executive Director of Development will lead and streamline all tribal funding opportunities and donor relations efforts for the National Tribal Program (+TSAF) work in collaboration with HQ-Philanthropy and in collaboration with the CA Tribal Program Director (TBD) for the regional offices. The role will continue to provide TSAF program development and supervision of TSAF staff, while also building capacity for the national tribal program based on fundraising successes.

The Co-Executive Director of Implementation will manage the National Tribal Program’s work in solar installation, project development, lead in people management and budgeting, and support the regional offices in their tribal work. The Co-Executive Director will continue to gain a thorough understanding of tribes’ varying affordable housing and energy priorities, begin and maintain relationships with potential tribal partners, and identify key regions to expand GRID’s services.

Staff Management & Co-Departmental Leadership

Direct, manage, motivate and supervise National Tribal Program and TSAF staff to inspire peak performance to meet and exceed the scope of work goals and objectives.

Shared Responsibilities:

Develop and maintain the National Tribal Program Advisory Council (formerly: TSAF Advisory Council and Tribal Advisory Board) to ensure the council consists of knowledgeable and well-connected members who can help guide the program and facilitate relationships with potential partners and supporters. Identify new funder contacts and new tribal relationships.

Regularly engage and organize advisory council functions.

Support regional offices in their tribal work, including collecting and sharing best practices, developing and managing an internal tribal program handbook, providing updated communication materials, providing leads for tribal partners, and other support as issues and projects arise.

Work directly with GRID Alternatives’ co-founders and other headquarters staff to ensure all tribal solar projects are consistent with GRID Alternatives’ policies, best practices, culture and long-term vision.\Maintain communication with GRID leadership, regional affiliates, communications, policy, workforce development and philanthropy department, and outreach to key tribal partners

Provide co-guidance to entire National Tribal Program team

The Co-Executive Director of Development

Supervise CA Tribal Program Director (TBD), WFD/Education Manager, Sr.Programs Officer, Tribal Project Finance Officer (TBD), Tribal Policy Director (TBD), Tribal Research and Evaluation Officer (TBD), Tribal Operations Coordinator (TBD) and oversee and direct the work for the Tribal Communications Officer sitting in HQ-Communications. Supporting high-level management across the National Tribal Program as needed.

What you will be doing (essential responsibilities):

  • Collaborate with the Philanthropy Operations Manager on Tribal Development account management.
  • Oversee all tribal fundraising coordination by collaborating with Philanthropy team members and regional office development staff.
  • Co-develop National Tribal Program staff structure, program policies, and goals, objectives, and activities.
  • Lead and support on cross-functional, cross-departmental, and cross-regional collaboration on all matters related to tribal partnerships and fundraising strategies.
  • Develop and oversee all TSAF budgets and budget processes
  • The Co-Executive Director of Implementation
  • Oversee operations of the Tribal Construction Staff and supervise the Tribal Deputy Director, Tribal Administration Staff, Tribal Outreach Staff. Which includes hire, onboard, support, manage, develop, and lead a diverse staff of top-quality people, ensuring they have the needed information, tools, and resources to do their jobs well
  • Lead People Management by developing policies, procedures, and guidelines for staff to follow. Co-create organizational structure, goals, objectives, and activities
  • Lead budget management for the National Tribal Program with the support of GRID Alternatives’ financial/accounting staff and sharing budgets and authorization with Co-ED
  • Develop and maintain partnerships and joint programs with tribes, intertribal agencies, affordable housing developers, job training programs, energy efficiency providers, non-profit organizations, local utilities, and federal government agencies.
  • Oversee project management of every HQ-led tribal project, including continuous communication with subject matter experts project partners, building a relationship with the local utility, identifying HQ or regional office staff to staff the training and installations, ensuring adequate funds, overseeing permitting and interconnection, and coordinating event planning and PR/communications with HQ staff.
  • Develop and maintain partnerships and joint programs with tribes, intertribal agencies, affordable housing developers, job training programs, energy efficiency providers, non-profit organizations, local utilities, and federal government agencies.
  • Assist the Co-Executive Director of Development and the Development Team to raise funds from government agencies, private foundations, corporate sponsors, local governments and individual donors for Tribal Work
  • Fundraising & Donor Relations - Managed by Co-Executive Director of Development
  • Create, evaluate, and implement an annual tribal fundraising plan in collaboration with the GRID HQ-Philanthropy plan, and cultivate relationships with potential and current funders, including; corporate and foundation relations, individual donors and when needed support on government funding opportunities.?
  • Direct all grant-making activities for TSAF: Direct all aspects of the TSAF grant-making activities, tribal relations, communications, and reporting to ensure efficiency throughout the entire grant process between GRID, funding partners, and tribal grantees.
  • Direct all solar project grants and leadership program’s
  • Oversee grant agreements and monitor execution of grant activities
  • Oversee the tracking and evaluation of data to accurately report on grant outcomes
  • Tribal Construction Program- Managed by Co-Executive Director of Implementation
  • Work closely with Deputy Director for involvement in Project management of every HQ-led tribal project, including continuous communication with project partners, building a relationship with the local utility, identifying HQ or regional office staff to staff the training and installations, ensuring adequate funds, overseeing permitting and interconnection, and coordinating event planning and PR/communications with HQ staff.
  • Attend and Participate in meetings, Site visits, outreach events, strategic partnership activities to ensure collaboration between National Tribal Program, governmental and Tribal Partners
  • Build GRID Alternatives’ presence and represent a positive public image of GRID Alternatives among tribal communities and networks, including networking and speaking presentations.
  • Continue to identify key areas to focus on and tribes to partner with by understanding the current landscape for residential solar on tribal lands and strategizing where GRID’s efforts fit in best. Current areas of interest are the Great Plains and the Southwest with future pilot projects planned in South Dakota, Arizona, Washington State and Montana.

Compensation:

The compensation range for this fulltime position is xxxxx. The base pay that will actually be offered will vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, location, experience and take into account internal equity.

Where you will sit & the places you may go…

The ideal candidate will sit in xxxxx. This position may require up to 25% out-of-town travel to regional offices and special projects such as org-wide celebrations, team building exercises, etc. Availability to work nights and weekends may very rarely be required. GRID Alternatives may provide vehicles for work travel and/or travel reimbursement for personal vehicle use. In this instance, applicants must hold a valid driver’s license and have a good driving record.
