OVERVIEW

The successful candidate must be able exhibit exceptional problem-solving abilities and always fit for duty. The General Labourer - Maintenance is expected to have the ability to learn and assist in several aspects of our daily operations such as maintenance and cleanup activities of the yard, and executing the daily tasks required to maintain our heavy equipment, bins and property. The job may involve exposure to dirt, dust, fumes, and other industrial elements.

RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITES

Receive, organize, stock, andmaintainaccountability of parts inventory, ensuring accuracy and availability for mechanics as needed.Assist Welders and Mechanics with light repairs asrequired, providing support to ensure efficient completion of tasks.Conduct daily inspections on machinery to ensure they are running smoothly, reporting any issues to the Supervisor for quick and effective resolution.Operate a forklift and/or bobcat as required, with training available if nopreviousexperience, tofacilitatethe movement of parts andequipmentas necessary.Assistwith washing vehicles, trucks, and equipment using a power washer,maintainingcleanliness and appearance standards.Complete general housekeeping duties around the yard, including emptying containers with garbage/waste and spent oils from equipment, machinery, or vehicles.Paint various sized bins, containers, pieces of equipment, machinery, or vehicles to ensure proper identification and aesthetics.Assist Parts Runner, in pickups and drop offs of commercial and industrial items, including drums, equipment, oils, lubricants, fuel and materials.

Other duties asrequired, not limited to responsibilities listing above.QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

Previousexperience operating forklifts and skid-steers is highly preferred.Handymanskills with experience in troubleshooting and problem-solving.Ability to perform physically demanding tasks and work outdoors in various weather conditions.Strong attention to detail and a commitment tomaintaininga safe working environment.Knowledge of safety protocols and willingness to adhere to safety guidelines.Previousexperience in scrap metal recycling or a related industry is a plus.Third-party licensing and safety training is an asset, but not mandatory (company will provide training asrequired).COMPETENCIES

The working environment is busy and fast paced, with regular and ongoing interactions with colleagues, management, and the public at large.  There may be frequent interruptions, and from time to time be noisy.  The employee must have knowledge of how to manage their own personal safety under these conditions.

While performing the responsibilities of the job, the employee is required to be able to lift up to and including 50lbs, sit and/or stand for extended periods of time and reach with arms/hands. Walking, walking up/down stairs, standing, bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, lifting, pushing, pulling, and moving items is occasionally required.
