Position Description

Summers-Taylor, Inc., is the largest heavy and highway construction contractor in Northeast Tennessee, and has been in business since 1932. Job Summary:

We are seeking a reliable and hardworking Yardman to support daily operations at our concrete ready-mix plant. This role is responsible for maintaining yard organization, assisting with plant upkeep, and safely operating a front-end loader to manage raw materials when needed. The ideal candidate is safety-focused, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, outdoor industrial environment.

Job Duties:

  1. Keep yard clean, organized, and free of hazards (debris removal, spill cleanup, proper stockpile management)
  2. Perform routine inspections and basic maintenance on loader equipment (fueling, greasing, cleaning, and reporting issues)
  3. Maintain consistent material flow to plant hoppers to ensure uninterrupted batching operations
  4. Operate a front-end loader to move, load, and stockpile aggregate materials (sand, gravel, stone) as needed for plant production
  5. Assist plant manager and drivers with general tasks as needed
  6. Monitor material levels and report shortages or inconsistencies
  7. Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and OSHA regulations
  8. Perform other duties as assigned by plant management

Position Requirements

Job Requirements:

  1. High school diploma or GED preferred
  2. Previous experience operating a front-end loader or similar heavy equipment preferred
  3. Experience in a concrete, construction, or aggregate environment is a plus
  4. Basic mechanical knowledge for equipment care and inspection
  5. Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
  6. Strong attention to safety and situational awareness
  7. Good communication
  8. Must pass pre-employment physical, drug screen and background check.
  9. Must have valid transportation.
  10. Must be able to work overtime and weekends as needed.
