Summary

The Shipping Supervisor oversees all outbound shipping operations, ensuring products are accurately prepared, packaged, and dispatched to customers on schedule. This role manages all required packaging, documentation, and shipment records while providing daily status updates to order management and planning teams.

Beyond outbound responsibilities, the Shipping Supervisor works closely with production to monitor upcoming orders, support on time delivery performance, and proactively communicate any risks, delays, or constraints to front end teams. This position leads the shipping team by setting clear goals, establishing meaningful KPIs, and driving consistent execution to meet company performance targets and customer expectations.

Location: This position is located in Longmont, CO.

Base Compensation: $68,000 - $81,000 is the projected compensation range for this role depending on the candidate’s overall qualifications and experience.


Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage all shipping personnel and daily activities, including hiring, training, performance management, and setting clear objectives.
  • Prepare accurate Packing Lists and Bills of Lading for all outbound shipments.
  • Schedule and coordinate pickups with freight carriers to ensure timely dispatch.
  • Verify the accuracy and completeness of shipping labels, packaging, quantities, and delivery information; review all shipping notes and special instructions.
  • Provide timely shipping quotes to Sales for order estimates and customer returns.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized shipping area, consistently following all safety policies and procedures.
  • Communicate proactively with Order Administration, Materials Management, Production, and other internal teams to ensure accurate and on time shipment of customer orders.
  • Ensure adherence to all shipping processes and standards, including palletizing, labeling, preventive maintenance, and verification/calibration of required tools.
  • Accurately update shipping records and ERP systems with all relevant shipment information.
  • Develop and document new processes, KPIs, and improvements to strengthen shipping, logistics, and cross functional communication.
  • Manage and support shipping claims related to damages, lost shipments, or delays; maintain strong carrier relationships and assist with pricing negotiations and contract management.
  • Evaluate carriers and determine optimal rates and service levels for each shipping lane.


Required Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in shipping, material handling, and working with computer based logistics software or ERP systems.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Strong communication skills with a positive, professional, and energetic attitude.
  • Extensive knowledge of LTL and FTL freight shipping, including INCOTERMS, customs and duty requirements for international shipments, material classifications, and weight regulations. Knowledge of export compliance regulations, including EAR, ITAR, or other trade control requirements.
  • Customer focused mindset with strong prioritization skills, accuracy, and attention to detail.
  • Proven leadership ability, demonstrating initiative, teamwork, and the capability to coach, guide, and set clear expectations for a shipping team.
  • Proficiency with standard shipping equipment, including pallet jacks, stretch wrappers/banders, forklifts, dock plates, and related tools.
  • Ability to speak, read, and understand English as needed to perform the duties of the job.
  • Current or willingness to obtain certification for hazardous materials (battery) shipping.
  • Familiarity with ISO or other quality management systems used in manufacturing environments. Experience supporting audits, including shipping, inventory, or quality audits.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret shipping data, identify trends, and recommend improvements.
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment, including standing and walking for the full shift, lifting 40–60 lbs., pushing/pulling large finished goods with pallet jacks or carts, and reaching for materials as needed. Adequate vision, depth perception, and color vision are required to perform essential job functions.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous supervisory experience in a warehouse, distribution, or manufacturing environment.
  • Hazardous Materials (49 CFR) shipping certification preferred.
  • Additional training or certifications in shipping, logistics, customs compliance, or international trade.
  • Valid forklift certification and emergency responder training are strongly preferred.
  • Lean manufacturing or continuous improvement experience, including familiarity with 5S, Kaizen, or process optimization tools.
  • Experience with packaging engineering or designing protective packaging for fragile or high value goods.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel for reporting, tracking, and analysis.
  • Experience implementing or improving shipping KPIs, such as on time shipment rate, dock to stock time, or freight cost per pound.
  • Background in logistics planning, freight optimization, or carrier performance management.
