DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION
The County of El Dorado, Department of Transportation is responsible for funding, designing, building, operating, and maintaining the County Road System. El Dorado County's Road System currently consists of approximately 1083 centerline miles of paved roadway, 76 bridges, a multitude of storm drainage systems, and related transportation facilities.

The Maintenance and Operations Division is composed of Road Crews, Fleet Services, Equipment Mechanics, and Traffic Control Crews. This dedicated team manages the repair, maintenance, and replacement of existing County roadway and drainage infrastructure. It is also responsible for the maintenance of all 1083 centerline miles of roadway in the County.

THE OPPORTUNITY
Bring your fleet management experience to the County of El Dorado's Transportation Department and join their team of professionals as a Fleet Superintendent and support the fleet and equipment management and maintenance programs.
The selected candidate will have the opportunity to:
- Plan, manage, and oversee the daily functions, operations, and activities of the maintenance of County equipment and vehicles, including those in the County-wide fleet program; develop and administer a comprehensive preventative maintenance and repair program.
- Participate in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, and priorities for County-wide fleet management and maintenance; recommend within departmental policy, appropriate service and staffing levels.
- Participate in the development, administration, and oversight of division budgets.
- Direct the selection, supervision, and work evaluation of assigned staff; recommend disciplinary action or dismissal; resolve a variety of routine personnel administrative matters.
- Inspect facilities and work in progress/completed for compliance with County and department policies and procedures; standards of quality and safety; and all applicable local, state, and federal laws, regulations, and guidelines.
- Develop, administer, and update the fleet replacement program in coordination with other County departments; develop, write, and review specifications for equipment/vehicle purchases; assist departments through the purchase/lease process; ensure products received meet specifications and have property warranties; approve invoices for payment; administer and arrange for disposal of vehicles and equipment.
- Maintain and prepare reports related to estimates, labor, materials, and equipment requirements for projected activities.
- Develop and standardize procedures and methods to improve and continuously monitor the efficiency and effectiveness of assigned programs, service delivery methods, and procedures while ensuring that operational, financial, regulatory, and legal requirements are met; assess and monitors workload, administrative and support systems, and internal reporting relationships; identify opportunities for improvement and make recommendations to the Deputy Director of Maintenance and Operations.
- Prepare, review, and complete various reports, presentations, long-range equipment replacement plans, documents, and correspondence related to areas of assignment.
- Requisition necessary tools, supplies, materials, and equipment and maintain inventory and records.
- Research new operational methods, techniques, and equipment and recommend their application.
- Review or prepare plans and specifications for contract work and inspects work performed to determine compliance to standards; administer contracts.
- Develop, review, and update programs, policies, and written maintenance instructions and schedules.
- Monitor changes in regulations and technology that may affect operations; implement policy and procedural changes after approval.

Education and Experience:
Any combination of the required training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying.
Equivalent to graduation from high school, supplemented by coursework in vehicle and equipment repair and business administration including supervisory training;

AND
Five (5) years of increasingly responsible experience in the procurement, repair, and maintenance of fleet vehicles and road construction equipment, with three (3) years of supervisory experience equivalent to the County’s class of Equipment Maintenance Supervisor.Licenses and Certifications:
- Possession of a valid California or Nevada Driver’s License and a satisfactory driving record.

The County of El Dorado is recruiting applicants for Fleet Superintendent. This recruitment will establish a list for the purpose of filling current and future full time, part time, limited term and extra help vacancies for at least three (3) months. In accordance with Personnel Rules 1103.1 and 1105.1, an extra help or limited term employee may be transitioned into a regular employee if the department in which the employee works has a vacant allocated position for the same classification as held by the extra help or limited term employee and the appointing authority requests such transfer.
