About This Position

JOB SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Student Life Director, the Student Activities and Leadership Coordinator is responsible for developing educational, social and cultural programs that support student learning and growth. The SALC will also develop student leadership programming that meets the standards set forth by Pratt Munson and Pratt Institute. The SALC will assists in the development, planning, organizing and execution of special campus events.

This is a 10-month, full time position that offers Munson’s comprehensive benefit package. Regular hours are 8:45 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Monday through Friday, for a 35-hour work week, however this position includes evening and weekend hours, as well as participation in the professional staff on-call rotation.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. Events and Programs:

  • Develop, plan, organize, execute (includes set up and break down), attend, and promote high quality events and programming including Engagement and Club Fairs.

  • Manage budgets, negotiate with vendors, review and approve performer contracts and technical riders.

  • Market student events through weekly emails, social media, publications, and coordinating with Communications.

  • Develop, promote, and implement co-curricular, multicultural, intramural events/programs, community service projects, oversee new student groups and clubs registration.

  • Work with campus departments, shuttle and transportation companies, fitness contractors, and dining services.

2. Student Advising:

  • Act as Pratt Munson Programming Board and Student Government Association advisor. Train and oversee Pratt Munson Programming Board and Student Government Association student members. Work with both to develop, organize, plan, execute and attend events and programming.

  • Act as the advisor or co-advisor for student organizations that have an institutional interest and for those that don’t have a campus staff advisor.

  • Recruit, select, train, and supervise Pratt Munson Peer Advisors for Orientation.

  • Train and supervise college work study students assigned to Student Life.

  • Act as advisor for the Student Gallery Committee.

3. Leadership Programming:

  • Develop and implement student group leader training and instruction programs.

  • Coordinate Pratt Munson leadership program, Connections, in order to develop Pratt Munson student organization leaders, Resident Assistants, and Pratt Peers into high quality student leaders.

4. Special Events and Programs:

  • Under direction of the Student Life Director and appropriate departments where applicable, coordinate planning, organizing, set-up, breakdown, and participating in Orientation; Family and Alumni Weekend; Commencement, and other inter-departmental events and programs.

5. On-Call and Crisis Management:

  • Act as part of professional on-call rotation. Provide crisis intervention in emergency situations.

  • Indirect supervision of Resident Assistants.

6. Shuttle and Field Trips:

  • Plan and execute the driving of a 12 passenger van on Saturdays for student shuttle service to local businesses.

  • Plan, execute, drive/charter, and supervise field trips for educational and social purposes.

7. Committee Work and Other Duties as Assigned:

  • Administrative tasks associated with the position.

  • Oversight of student use areas, i.e. Fitness Center and Student Center.

  • May be asked to participate with campus and organization-wide committees and special events.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

  • This position requires a Bachelor’s degree and 1 to 3 years of experience in planning and coordinating college level student activities. Desired: Master’s degree in Education, Fine Arts, Student Development, College Student Personnel or related field preferred. Experience working with art students is highly desirable.

  • Effective organizational and time management skills and ability to prioritize tasks, work independently, and follow through on all assignments with minimal direction;

  • Excellent communication skills and polished and professional interpersonal skills to interact with Munson staff, students, and faculty;

  • Critical thinking, consensus building, and problem-solving skills;

  • Ability to gather information, sort, draft, and provide analysis for participation, budgetary and purchasing projects.

  • Ability to read budget reports and accurately prepare fiscal documents and forms.

  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license in good standing.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Student Activities and Leadership Coordinator has direct supervisory responsibilities for student Pratt Munson Peer Advisors peers and college work study students assigned to Student Life and indirect supervisory of Resident Assistants.

COMPUTER MACHINE & EQUIPMENT SKILLS

Personal computer skills that include the ability to send/receive e-mail messages, post information to a database or spreadsheet, and perform word processing, bookkeeping, and/or data entry. Knowledge/use of computer, printer, photocopier, phone system, and scanner. Requires experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and various software programs.


The Student Activities & Leadership Coordinator is consistently called upon to stand, sit and walk and frequently lift up to 10 lbs. Other duties require the ability to talk and hear, utilize common office equipment and perform activities related to the safe operation of a van.


The final candidate will be required to complete a post-offer, pre-employment background check.
