The Art Store Assistant is vital to the seamless functioning of the KCAI art store and mailroom on campus. This position requires a dynamic individual with a passion for art, exceptional organizational skills, and a strong commitment to providing excellent customer service. This position involves actively engaging in diverse tasks that contribute to the smooth day-to-day operations of the campus art store and mailroom, guaranteeing that the needs of KCAI students, faculty, and staff are met with utmost efficiency and effectiveness. The Art Store Assistant reports to the Art Store Manager and collaborates closely with the campus administrative team to ensure a seamless and efficient experience for all campus stakeholders.
Essential Functional Responsibilities:
- Assisting customers with inquiries, providing information about art supplies and services, and offering guidance on product selection.
- Maintaining inventory levels by restocking shelves, organizing art supplies, and ensuring a well-organized and visually appealing store environment.
- Processing transactions accurately and efficiently using the point-of-sale (POS) system and handling cash and credit card payments securely.
- Collaborating with the store manager on visual merchandising and promotional displays to improve store appeal and support sales goals.
- Assisting with the receipt, sorting, and distribution of incoming and outgoing mail and packages in the campus mailroom.
- Ensuring the timely and accurate delivery of mail and packages to the appropriate recipients, departments, or offices.
- Operating mailroom equipment such as postage meters, scales, package sorting software and lockers, and performing basic maintenance as needed.
- Maintaining organized records of incoming and outgoing mail, as well as tracking and updating package delivery statuses.
- Assisting in the leading and training of the art store student workers, providing guidance, support and fostering a positive work environment.
- Assisting in the content creation for social media, including photography, short-form video, and creative campaign ideas.
- Collaborating with the campus community to understand their needs and suggest improvements to enhance the quality of services provided.

Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications:
- Previous customer service experience and a passion for art and creativity is preferred.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse individuals and groups.
- Basic computer skills and experience with point-of-sale (POS) systems and mailroom equipment are essential, along with the ability to quickly adapt to and learn new applications and systems.
- Basic knowledge of photography or videography for social media; graphic design experience is a plus.
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
- Attention to detail and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Demonstrated reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic.
- Ability to lift and move heavy boxes (up to 50lbs) and packages when necessary.
- Familiarity with shipping and receiving procedures.
Required Experience/Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent
Preferred Experience/Education:
- Bachelor's in art, business, or a related field
