Legal Counsel at State of Missouri – Jefferson City, Missouri

Minimum Salary: $72,000 or above based on experience

The salary indicated represents a base pay rate. If the candidate selected is eligible for a years-of-service pay differential, it will be added to the total compensation. A pay differential does not raise the base pay.

Job Location: This position is located at the Harry S Truman State Office Building, 301 W High Street, Jefferson City, Missouri.

This position serves Missourians by providing legal counsel to the Department on a wide range of issues including compliance and enforcement of Missouri’s insurance laws and regulations. This legal work assists the Department in protecting consumers and ensuring a level playing field for insurance companies.

• Represent the Department at administrative hearings and in court proceedings.
• Prepare pleadings and documents related to assigned cases.
• Draft orders, legal memoranda, and other documents necessary to the operation of the Department.
• Assist in the investigation of licensees and prosecute licensing actions.
• Draft, edit, and/or summarize proposed legislation and regulations related to insurance.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Graduation from an accredited law school and membership with good standing in the Missouri Bar.

Employment in this position may qualify individuals for the provisions under the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program.
