Job Description
The Technical Commercial Product Specialist (TSSIII) is a senior-level technical authority within the commercial organization who operates with a high degree of autonomy and provides leadership, mentorship, and expert guidance across complex commercial projects. This role ensures strong alignment between customer requirements, Schluter product capabilities, and internal technical, sales, and product processes.
The TSSIII supports commercial and architectural projects from design and specification through implementation, serving as a trusted technical resource for architects, contractors, installers, sales teams, and internal partners. Core aspects of the role include technical coordination, specification support, CAD/Revit documentation management, warranty and risk assessment support, process optimization, and customer experience enhancement.
• Assist in managing and improving the process for project-specific warranty requests from the sales department in collaboration with the Schluter Technical department, balancing customer expectations with company liability.
• Respond to product specification requests quickly and accurately.
• Develop and maintain specified Technical Data Sheets for key commercial products.
• Organize and distribute CAD/Revit details, including pre-approved drawings based on TCNA Handbook details, efficiently upon request.
• Stay up to date on TCNA, TTMAC, ANSI A108/A118, IPC, UPC, and local building code requirements.
• Monitor competitive products and market trends to recommend strategic product improvements while ensuring company products & installation procedures meet or exceed industry standards.
• Provide support and maintain updates within industry specification software such as SpecLive, SpecWizard, ARCAT, SpecLink, Dodge, and MasterSpec.
• Collaborate with Technical Services, R&D, and Product Management for new product development, documentation edits, and data organization.
• Support the Commercial and Architectural Sales Teams as a technical resource, providing consistent, professional communication with a 48-hour response time.
• Communicate directly with architects, general contractors, and end users to clarify proper product specifications and use.
• Conduct technical assessments and offer tailored recommendations to support customer specifications and commercial project requirements.
• Provide guidance during the implementation phase of projects by troubleshooting and problem-solving to end users.
• Conduct installer, distributor, and specifier training through workshops, seminars, and trade events.
• Maintain accurate and organized documentation of activities and communications within CRM (ie. Maximizer, Salesforce or equivalent), including letters and email records.
• Participate in Sales Meetings, Trade Shows, Job Site Visits, Workshops, and other industry-related events as needed.
• Complete special assignments as directed by the Technical Commercial Support Manager.
Requirements:• Degree or certification in a related technical field (e.g. architecture, engineering, construction technology).
• Minimum 10–15 years of relevant experience in construction, technical support, project management, or commercial customer service, with deep specialization in waterproofing and tile installation systems is preferred.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite; familiarity with Revit and specification software is highly desirable.
• Up to 30% travel required (Sales Meetings, Trade Shows, Job Site Visits, Workshops, Industry Events, and Schluter locations).
• Strong organizational and communication skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks independently.
• Motivated self-starter with the ability to prioritize workload and deliver timely, high- quality results.
• Comfortable speaking with and in front of large groups.
• Prior experience with commercial projects and warranty evaluations is highly desirable.
• Deep knowledge of tile setting materials, waterproofing systems, building codes, technical documentation, and industry standards (e.g., TCNA, ANSI, ICC).
• Comfort working cross-functionally across technical, legal, sales, and product teams.
• Proactive, detail-oriented, and confident in navigating ambiguous or complex situations.
• Positive, solution-focused mindset with a strong sense of accountability.
• Strong team collaborator with the ability to work independently and drive towards results without regular direct contact.
• Bachelors degree or certification in Construction Technology, Architecture, Engineering, or a related field (preferred).
• Customer service experience is preferred
• Emotional intelligence and self-awareness skills along with group and individual conflict resolution skills required.
• Experienced tradesman or GC work is a plus. Proven proficiency at effective written and verbal communication.
