About This Position
JOB TITLE: Workshop FacilitatorDIVISION: Adult Services DEPARTMENT: Detroit At Work Career Center LOCATION: Northwest Activities Center – 18100 Meyers Rd. Detroit, MI 48235REPORTS TO: Career Center Services ManagerFLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt/Hourly CLASSIFICATION: Full-Time Regular APPROVED DATE: 3/30/2026 JOB SUMMARY: Performs responsible job search training activities in a classroom setting that provides Detroit At Work Career Center customers with the ability to effectively seek employment. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:Designs and facilitates career development and life skills workshops including self-assessment, goal setting, workplace conduct and appearance, resume writing, job search strategies, networking, interviewing and other related subjects. Supervises the administration of career and job readiness assessment instruments.Modifies curriculum and materials as required to meet individual and program needs.Utilizes a variety of teaching resources to develop customers’ knowledge of subject area.Monitors and evaluates progress of customers and prescribes corrective plans whenever necessary. Prepares and maintains current and accurate accounting of customer participation.Maintains a warm atmosphere where customers feel cared and welcome.Maintains a functional knowledge of economic and job market trends and demands and incorporates knowledge into job readiness training modules. Assists with intake/orientation activities. Contributes to the team effort by performing other duties as assigned. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None JOB QUALIFICATIONS:Graduation from an accredited college or university preferred or combination of education and experience. Experience with adult learners in a nontraditional environment desired.Knowledge and understanding of instructional and classroom techniques.Knowledge of basic education principles, practices and techniques for adult learning.Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to plan and organize effectively.Bilingual language skills English/Spanish preferred. Must possess and provide a valid Michigan Driver's License. Must be willing to work a flexible schedule and have access to reliable transportation. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to see, talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit for extended periods of time, and have sufficient hand, arm, and finger dexterity to operate a phone, computer keyboard, and other office equipment. Must be able to lift a minimum of 10 pounds.WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. -This job operates in a normal environment with a noise level, which is at times, moderately loud with little discomfort due to noise, dirt, dust and the like. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
