Supervisor Melt at Universal Stainless – Bridgeville, Pennsylvania

Primary Objective

Assists Manager Melt Shop in ensuring the smooth operation of the Melt Shop. Supervises and coordinates the activities of the Melt Shop employees in the steel manufacturing process.

Responsibilities:

• Direct Melt Shop hourly employees.
• Capability/knowledge of AOD melting calculation of chemistry and maintaining chemistry control.
• Provide direction to hourly melting staff on melting process.
• Provide on-going instruction and training to hourly employees to develop their skills and knowledge of the steel manufacturing process.
• Prepare employee schedules to meet production needs.
• Maintain steel pouring inventory items and communicate needs to office.
• Interpret Company policies and direct employees accordingly.
• Enforce safety policies and procedures.
• Interpret job order and assign duties.
• Analyze and resolve work problems and assist workers in solving their work problems.
• Recommend personnel actions (i.e. promotions and discipline, etc.)
• Complete employee performance reports.
• Maintain time and production records.
• Communicate and work with maintenance on equipment issues.

Education/Experience/Skills

• High School graduate or GED required.
• Melt Shop experience and knowledge of Melt Shop machinery and equipment
• Experience in managing a unionized environment
• Experience in supervising a unionized environment
• Experience in a steel mill melt shop required
• Ability to work weekends, holidays and twelve (12) hour shifts.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
• Experience with stainless steel and specialty alloys desirable
• Strong interpersonal skills
• Strong verbal and written communication skills

Physical/Working Conditions

• Ability to work in extreme hot and dusty environment
• Ability to walk in high elevated areas and stairs
• Ability to prolonged standing and walking
• Must be able to wear appropriate PPE.
