About This Position

Situated within the shared, unceded territory of the L̓il̓wat7úl (Líl̓wat People) and Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish People), the Resort Municipality of Whistler (RMOW) is a vibrant destination resort community, local government organization and leader in providing municipal programs, services, progressive planning and infrastructure. The RMOW is a high performance municipal organization and significant tourism economy serving a community of 15,000 permanent residents and over three million annual visitors. The Recreation department of the Community Engagement and Cultural Services division has an opportunity for qualified individuals to apply for the position of Outdoor Lifeguard. Reporting to the Recreation Programmer, this position offers approximately 72 hours bi-weekly starting June 25, 2026, through to September 4, 2026.

The Outdoor Lifeguard is an essential role for RMOW Community Centre summer camp programs. The Outdoor Lifeguard is responsible to ensure the safety of camp participants on days that the program goes swimming or partakes in water sports and activities at lakes and surrounding areas. The Outdoor Lifeguard will also deliver activities, first aid and instruction in an open forum for camp participants.

Qualified candidates will be a fully certified and qualified Lifeguard with current NL, WSI, First Aid and CPR-C certifications. National Lifeguard Waterfront option is preferred. Additionally, qualified candidates will be 19 years of age (licensing requirement) and possess a grade 12 diploma supplemented by previous experience working with children in a similar role.

The successful candidate demonstrates excellent active listening and verbal communication skills; knowledge of aquatic-related policy and procedure, water safety and first aid; and proven lifeguarding skills. The successful candidate is a positive and outgoing individual who enjoys working with children of all ages with sound judgment for quick decision making and the ability to create and maintain effective working relationships with others while contributing to a positive team environment. The successful candidate also demonstrates a commitment to promoting a diverse and inclusive workplace within their team.

As a requirement of the position, the successful applicant must provide a satisfactory Police Information Check and Criminal Reference Check (licensing requirement) prior to beginning employment. The starting wage for this job position is $29.53 per hour. In addition to the hourly wage, causal employees at the RMOW receive 12% of their regular earnings in lieu of employee benefits.
