Summary:
This position participates, encourages and assists in assigned renewal tasks and projects in the Collection Systems Department; functional areas of responsibility include duties related to the renewing of the collection system infrastructure, including, site safety (including Kentucky OSHA safety principles, practices, and procedures), customer service, quality, and assist in the implementation of and ensure compliance with construction specifications and SD1’s Rules and Regulations. Perform a variety of skilled construction tasks that are usually involved in wastewater and storm water collection system rehabilitation. Operate a variety of construction equipment as well as interpret maps, construction drawings, and work orders. To assist the operation, maintenance, and repair of SD1 assets, equipment, and systems within the collections systems.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: (Other duties may be assigned.)
- Assists & participates in various renewal activities of Collection Systems Construction crew(s), including renewing of sewer and storm facilities and infrastructure
- Repair and maintain sanitary sewer and storm pipes.
- Clean and repair catch basins and manholes using powered equipment and hand tools.
- Ability to raise manholes to prescribed levels or to rebuild a catch basin to proper specifications using masonry tools.
- Break asphalt and other pavements using air hammer, pick, and shovel.
- Excavate area around pipes using powered equipment and heavy equipment, such as a backhoe or hand tools.
- Cut the damaged pipe and remove it from the ditch.
- Replace broken pipes with new sections and connect using a pipe repair coupling, per SD1 specifications
- Inspect joints to ensure tightness and seal before backfilling.
- Compact pipe backfill using air and gasoline tamper, along with hand tamper.
- Replace moved or missing manhole covers.
- Drive pickup, utility bed, or dump trucks, to haul crew, equipment, or materials to and from a job site.
- Communicate with supervisor, other crew members, vendors, and rate payers using radio or telephone, in a professional manner.
- Prepare records showing actions taken, human resources, and equipment utilization and disposition of materials.
- Perform visual inspection of the sewage system with regards to sewage back-ups in homes to begin determination of cause of problem.
- Inspects truck equipment and supplies such as tires, lights, brakes, fuel, oil, and water as required by the SD1's preventative maintenance program, also DOT inspections when required, before departing for a job.
- Duties may also include making confined space entries into sewer manholes or sewer lines.
