Electrician Administrator

Department: 700 – Field Technical Services

Reports To: Pump Station Manager

FLSA Status: Non-exempt

Pay Grade: 24

Prepared: 5/29/26

Summary

POSITION SUMMARY:

This is a supervisory position which involves the necessary skills to assist the Pump Stations Manager in continually improving, overseeing, and implementing SD1’s Technical Pump Station and Treatment Plant Maintenance programs and activities. Field Tech Electricians report directly to this position.

This position requires wide-ranging knowledge in Wastewater Pump Station and Treatment Plant maintenance activities combined with an electrical background.

This position will assist in coordinating and overseeing Field Electrician efforts to identify systematic problems at SD1 pump stations and treatment plants. The Electrician Administrator is responsible for assisting the Pump Station Manager in the supervision and field oversight of Electricians and Electrician Apprentices and is responsible for the maintenance of the electrical and control aspects of pump stations and treatment plants required to maintain the flow and treatment of wastewater. This position will be responsible for after-hours response as necessary.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (including, but not limited to, the following):

Responsible for the implementation and oversight of day-to-day work activities for the Field Electricians and will assess and document the competencies and performance of staff for advancement or training opportunities.

· Responsible for the implementation and oversight of preventative and corrective operations, maintenance, inspection, and support of SD1’s pump station and treatment plant systems.

· Required to utilize strategic resource management practices to accomplish workload requirements and to ensure resources are meeting division utilization requirements.

· Identifies the need for the use of external contractors that can assist in the operations and maintenance of pump stations and treatment plants.

· Research, identify, and propose when new technology can be implemented to accomplish operational workloads more efficiently.

· Must be able to focus on investigatory efforts (preventative maintenance) and root cause analysis to identify the result of existing and projected operational problems.

· Assist in planning for upgrades due to operational or customer service limitations and develop corrective action solutions resulting from trouble shooting procedures.

· Be able to assist in the reduction or elimination of potential problems or failures within the wastewater conveyance and treatment systems.

· Assist in developing a proactive operations management approach that will contain and prevent overflows, outages, and manage the effectiveness of the preventative maintenance and repair program.

· Participate in the hiring, evaluation, training, and disciplinary action within the Field Technical Services group.

· Develop, identify, and recommend operations and maintenance solutions to improve operational programs and provide input in the development of implementation and improvement plans.

· Attend scheduled meetings with department directors, managers, supervisors, contractors, engineers, and other internal and external agencies.

· Prepare management reports, correspondence, and memo’s regarding non-routine (emergency) matters.

· Operates and maintains the SCADA system and monitors pumping operations.

· Responds to after hour and emergency situations as required.

· Processes work orders for electricians, ensuring proper entry of information for the closing out of work orders.

· Process and approve timecards for the electricians within the Field Technical Services Group.

· Must provide leadership that results in a safe work culture, is responsible and accountable for the safety of the crews under his direction and must understand and accept the importance and legal liability of the role.

· Assist with quality assurance and control within the Field Technical Services Group to ensure that work meets the required performance standards while implementing work processes to improve productivity and product quality.

Qualifications:

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in civil/construction engineering or other associated technical mechanical or electrical degree from a two-year or four-year College or University, or technical trade school is preferred but not required.
  • Must have at least five years of related experience and/or training with similar types of work involving Water or Wastewater maintenance; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Highly desired candidates will have five or more years of supervisory work experience Wastewater Field Operations.
  • Must have and maintain a professional electrical license and be working towards a license as a Master Electrician.

Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Spreadsheet software, Microsoft Word Processing software, SCADA, and Lucity.
