Westhills Equine Veterinary Services is seeking an Equine Hospital Veterinarian to join our growing team.

About the Role

As our Hospital Veterinarian, you'll provide primary medical oversight for hospitalized patients, urgent-care cases, foaling mares, and neonatal foals during your scheduled block. Working within our paired Hospital DVM model, you'll collaborate closely with an experienced Hospital RVT(s) who serves as your technical partner, ensuring continuity of care while allowing you to focus on clinical decision-making. Some emergency work required (~1/6 rotation).

Rather than remaining indefinitely responsible for every case, you'll work alongside an opposite-rotation Hospital Veterinarian who provides seamless continuity between rotations, allowing your scheduled time off to truly be time off.

This role offers the opportunity to build expertise in hospital medicine while helping shape protocols, patient safety systems, and the continued growth of Westhills' hospital and client-only urgent care services.

You'll play a leading role in:

• Hospital admissions and inpatient case management
• Urgent and emergency case assessment and treatment
• Foaling management and neonatal medicine
• Diagnostic planning, treatment plans, and discharge decisions
• Medical oversight of the Hospital RVT and technical team
• Client communication, treatment recommendations, and estimates
• Maintaining accurate medical records and case documentation
• Clinical handoffs and continuity planning
• Development of hospital protocols and patient safety initiatives
• Collaborative case management with reproduction and ambulatory veterinarians

What We're Looking For

Required

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent
• Eligible for veterinary licensure in Alberta
• Strong equine medicine skills
• Valid driver's licence

Ideal Candidate

• Has experience in equine hospital, referral, emergency, or neonatal medicine.
• Is comfortable independently managing hospitalized equine patients appropriate to their level of experience.
• Communicates confidently and compassionately with both clients and team members.
• Demonstrates sound clinical judgment and remains calm under pressure.
• Enjoys collaborating within a supportive, team-based hospital environment.
• Has an interest in developing hospital protocols, mentoring others, and contributing to continuous improvement.

What We Offer

Starting Salary: $110,000+ annually, with compensation increasing based on experience and expertise.

Westhills EVS is located just 10 minutes west of Stony Plain and 30 minutes west of Edmonton, with easy access from Highway 16.
