Job Description
Software Engineer, AI-Accelerated Development
You're already reaching for AI tools before you write a line of code. What if your next team was built entirely around that instinct?
About the Company:
Our client is a cloud communications API platform (CPaaS) powering voice and text messaging for more than 1,500 companies, from contact centers to fintech platforms to mobile carriers. Their platform includes voice APIs, SMS/MMS messaging, RCS for Business, branded calling solutions, and bring-your-own-carrier (BYOC) options, all built on carrier redundancy, compliance, and U.S.-based support. When a call or text absolutely has to go through, their customers count on this team to make it happen.
The Opportunity:
We are looking for a software engineer who's already comfortable working alongside AI tools day to day and wants to build that fluency further inside a small, senior engineering team. You'll work across their Voice, Messaging, and Platform Services stack, using AI coding assistants for scaffolding, code review, test generation, debugging, and documentation, while sharpening your own judgment about when to trust the output and when to override it. This is a great fit for someone early in their AI-assisted development journey who wants to grow into it quickly, surrounded by people who've already been doing this daily.

If that sounds like how you already work, we want to hear from you. Send your resume and a quick note on how AI tools show up in your day-to-day development.

What You'll Actually Do:
- Design, build, and ship features across Voice, Messaging, and Platform Services systems (APIs, routing logic, carrier integrations, messaging pipelines)
- Use AI coding assistants (Claude Code, Codex, GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or similar) as part of your daily workflow
- Start experimenting with AI agents for real engineering tasks (testing, documentation upkeep, code migration) under guidance from more senior teammates
- Support production systems handling real-time voice and messaging traffic, including a weekly on-call rotation
- Work closely with product management on scoping and estimation
- Write clear documentation, including notes on what worked and didn't with AI-assisted workflows
What You Bring:
- 3 to 5 years of professional software engineering experience, ideally including backend/API work or distributed systems
- Regular, hands-on use of AI coding tools, with a genuine interest in getting sharper with them, not just occasional use
- Solid fundamentals in data structures, testing, and system design, so you can catch AI-generated code that's wrong, not just accept it
- Experience with a modern backend language/framework (Node.js, Python, Go, or Java); this team is primarily Node with some Python
- Strong written communication skills
- Able to be in the Raleigh, NC office Wednesdays and Thursdays each week; unfortunately, this role is not able to sponsor work visas
- Bonus: any exposure to telecom protocols (SIP, SMPP) or messaging standards (SMS/MMS/RCS)
Why You'll Want This One:
- Work on infrastructure that's genuinely mission-critical: real calls, real texts, real customers, at scale
- Be part of a thriving company at the center of the rapidly growing CPaaS industry
- Join a small, senior team with real ownership and visibility into the roadmap
- Room to grow your AI-assisted development skills fast, with senior engineers around you who can teach it
- Your future path here is wide open, with real room for professional growth
- Hybrid schedule based in Raleigh, NC (in-office Wednesdays and Thursdays)
Benefits & Perks:
- Comprehensive health coverage: medical (100% covered), dental, and vision for you and your family
- Generous PTO plus 10+ paid company holidays
- 401(k) with a 4% company match
- Competitive compensation plus commission
- A fun, collaborative culture with team-building events and company-wide volunteer days
If that sounds like how you already work, we want to hear from you. Send your resume and a quick note on how AI tools show up in your day-to-day development.
