Outdoor Facility Worker - Whistler Olympic Plaza in Whistler, British Columbia at RESORT MUNICIPALITY OF WHISTLER

The Recreation department of the Community Engagement and Cultural Services division has an opportunity for qualified individuals to apply for the position of Outdoor Facility Worker at the Whistler Olympic Plaza Ice Rink (WOPIR). Reporting to the Recreation Services Supervisor, this position offers approximately 24 hours bi-weekly including evenings and weekends starting November 23, 2026, until March 19, 2027.

The Outdoor Facility Worker’s primary role is to deliver excellent customer service in a pleasant, positive and professional manner by ensuring a safe, clean and enjoyable experience for guests. Outdoor Facility Workers perform light repair work; regular janitorial duties; snow shoveling; make and maintain the ice sheet including flooding, driving the Ice Resurfacer and monitoring refrigeration plant equipment; as well, will work in the skate shop to provide skate rentals to guests as needed. This role is also responsible for constructing and tearing down the outdoor skating rink at the beginning and the end of the seasonal operations.

Qualified candidates have a grade 12 diploma and a valid Level I first aid certification supplemented by at least 6 months of experience in a similar janitorial or building services position and previous guest service experience including some cash handling. Candidates must have good working knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and equipment used in janitorial work and a familiarity of arena operations and operation of related equipment and machinery. Candidates must be physically able to perform moderate indoor and outdoor work in all weather conditions including some heavy lifting.

The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent communication skills and the ability to work well independently. Also, is a team player who is customer focused with an approachable and helpful demeanor. The successful candidate demonstrates commitment to promoting a diverse and inclusive workplace and will create and maintain a positive team environment. The starting wage for this position is $30.57 per hour. In addition, to the hourly wage, casual employees at the RMOW receive 12% of their regular earnings in lieu of employee benefits.

As a requirement of the position, the successful applicant must hold a valid class 5 BC driver’s license and must provide a satisfactory driver’s abstract and Police Information Check prior to beginning employment.
