PLANT MAINTENANCE TECH in Spartanburg, South Carolina at Tietex International Ltd

The Plant Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing a wide variety of maintenance, repair, fabrication, cleaning, and facility support tasks throughout the plant and company property. This position supports production operations by maintaining equipment, troubleshooting mechanical issues, completing preventive maintenance activities, assisting with grounds and facility upkeep, and supporting Carding and other manufacturing departments as assigned. The primary objective is to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable operation of equipment and facilities while minimizing downtime.

Essential Job Functions

Equipment Maintenance & Repair

1. Remain vigilant for potential problems or issues involving buildings, grounds, machinery, equipment, parts, and components throughout the facility.
2. Perform preventive maintenance (PM), inspections, troubleshooting, repairs, and corrective maintenance on machinery, equipment, and facility systems.
3. Repair, modify, install, fabricate, and maintain machine parts and components as required.
4. Cut, weld, grind, paint, rig, assemble, and fabricate parts, structures, and equipment as needed.
5. Read and interpret prints, drawings, schematics, and measurements to complete assigned work.
6. Complete assigned PM inspections, work orders, checklists, and maintenance documentation accurately and timely.
7. Report abnormal equipment conditions and recommend corrective actions to supervisors or maintenance leadership.

Production Equipment Cleaning & Support

1. Clean assigned production equipment, including carding systems and related machinery, according to established schedules and procedures.
2. Clean equipment from fiber feed systems through downstream processing components as assigned.
3. Clean around bearing housings, cylinders, workers, strippers, and other mechanical components.
4. Remove waste fiber, dust, debris, and contaminants from equipment and surrounding work areas.
5. Lift and remove equipment covers, guards, and access panels as necessary to complete cleaning and maintenance tasks.
6. Empty waste containers and maintain housekeeping standards within assigned areas.
7. Assist production departments with equipment-related maintenance needs to support operational continuity.

Facilities & Grounds Maintenance

1. Perform maintenance and repairs on buildings, structures, fences, roadways, roofs, and facility infrastructure.
2. Assist with grounds maintenance, landscaping, and general property upkeep.
3. Operate lawn care equipment, utility vehicles, and other mechanical equipment required for facility maintenance.

Safety & Operational Support

1. Safely operate forklifts, tuggers, man-lifts, lift baskets, and other material handling equipment.
2. Follow all company safety procedures, policies, and work instructions.
3. Maintain clean and organized work areas and practice good housekeeping standards.
4. Work independently or collaboratively with other maintenance personnel and production employees.
5. Perform other duties and special projects as assigned by management.

Minimum Requirements

1. High School Diploma or GED required.
2. Self-motivated with strong work ethic and ability to work independently.
3. Good visual acuity and manual dexterity.
4. Basic computer skills.
5. Ability to utilize prints, drawings, schematics, measurements, hand tools, and power tools.
6. Mechanical aptitude with troubleshooting and repair capabilities.
7. Ability to obtain and maintain required equipment certifications, including tugger, forklift, or other material handling equipment licenses.
8. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation preferred.
9. Ability to work overtime, weekends, holidays, and call-ins as needed.
10. Strong teamwork, communication, and multitasking skills.

Physical Requirements

1. Ability to stand and walk on concrete floors for extended periods, up to 12-hour shifts.
2. Ability to move throughout the entire facility, including production areas, rooftops, grounds, and outdoor work environments.
3. Ability to climb ladders and safely work at elevated heights using man-lifts, lift baskets, and other approved equipment.
4. Frequently bend, reach, stoop, kneel, push, pull, and work in confined or tight spaces.
5. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds routinely and up to 75 pounds occasionally, with assistance from hoists or material handling equipment when necessary.
6. Ability to work in varying temperatures, dusty environments, and manufacturing conditions.
7. Good vision and the ability to identify equipment issues, hazards, and quality concerns.
