Senior Underwriter, Manufacturing (Endorsements and Renewals)

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Underwriter, Manufacturing (Endorsements and Renewals) based in Canada.

This role offers the opportunity to provide comprehensive underwriting solutions for commercial mid-market manufacturing businesses.
You will work closely with broker partners to develop a thorough understanding of risks and make sound, commercially informed underwriting decisions.
The position combines strong technical underwriting expertise with relationship management across internal and external stakeholders.
You will manage endorsements and renewals while maintaining a high standard of risk assessment, service, and responsiveness.
The role also offers an opportunity to share your expertise by coaching and mentoring less experienced underwriters.

Accountabilities:
  • Commercial Underwriting: Assess and underwrite commercial manufacturing risks, developing complete solutions for mid-market businesses while ensuring risks are evaluated accurately and consistently.
  • Endorsements and Renewals: Manage endorsement and renewal activities, applying sound underwriting judgment to maintain appropriate coverage and support strong portfolio performance.
  • Broker Relationships: Build and maintain trusted relationships with a broad network of broker partners, working collaboratively to understand their clients' businesses, risk profiles, and insurance requirements.
  • Risk Assessment: Apply strong technical underwriting expertise and critical thinking to develop well-informed decisions that balance the needs of brokers, customers, and the business.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring clear communication and a high level of service throughout the underwriting process.
  • Problem-Solving: Address complex underwriting situations using sound judgment, analytical thinking, and practical solutions in a fast-paced commercial environment.
  • Coaching and Mentorship: Support the development of less experienced underwriters by sharing technical knowledge, providing coaching, and contributing to a collaborative learning environment.
Requirements
  • Commercial Underwriting Experience: At least 5 years of commercial underwriting experience, with a strong focus on manufacturing risks.
  • Technical Expertise: Demonstrated knowledge of commercial underwriting principles and the ability to assess manufacturing risks effectively and make sound underwriting decisions.
  • Professional Designation: Completed or actively pursuing a CIP designation is considered an asset.
  • Customer Service: Strong customer service skills and the ability to build productive, professional relationships with brokers and other stakeholders.
  • Relationship Building: Proven ability to establish and maintain strong broker relationships through clear communication, responsiveness, and a customer-focused approach.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong critical-thinking and problem-solving capabilities, with the judgment to navigate complex or changing underwriting situations.
  • Teamwork: A team-first mentality and willingness to collaborate, share knowledge, and contribute to collective success.
  • Leadership and Mentorship: Ability and enthusiasm to coach, mentor, and support the professional development of colleagues with less underwriting experience.
  • Adaptability: Comfortable working in a fast-paced and dynamic environment while maintaining accuracy, organization, and service quality.
