Responsible for the scheduling of OR surgery/procedure cases. Contacts insurance providers to obtain pre-authorization of surgical procedures and diagnostic testing. Provides support to front office operations to ensure smooth flow of patient care.
Duties and Responsibilities:
· Responsible for the coordination and scheduling of all OR surgeries and procedures, to include
pre-op, medical clearance, and post-op appointments.
· Verifies patient demographics and obtains pre-certifications for all surgeries and procedures from insurance carriers.
· Instructs patients on procedure protocol and responds to patient's questions and concerns.
- Acts as a liaison between referring physicians and surgeons for the communication of clinical data and to determine OR scheduling.
· Ensures that all pre-op processes and forms are completed and forwarded to the OR.
· Functions as a back-up to the front office staff as necessary.
- Performs automated functions that fall within job responsibility.
Knowledge, Abilities:
· Excellent communication, interpersonal, patient relations and telephone skills required
· Knowledge of medical terminology and electronic medical records/systems
· Familiarity with commercial insurance processes
· Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
· Ability to multi-task
Minimum requirements:
High school diploma or GED. At least three years of scheduling experience, with two years of experience in a clinical setting, preferably in a medical practice environment.
