This role offers the opportunity to lead the corporate accounting function and play a central role in maintaining the organization’s financial health and reporting integrity. You will oversee the accounting team, drive an efficient monthly close process, and ensure financial operations remain accurate and compliant with GAAP. The position combines hands-on accounting leadership with strategic partnership across Finance and operational teams. You will strengthen internal controls, improve processes, and help enhance the systems that support financial operations. As a trusted financial partner, you will contribute to budgeting, forecasting, cash management, and business decision-making. - Lead, coach, and develop the Corporate Accounting Team, including Corporate Accountant(s) and Accounts Payable Specialist(s), while fostering accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Establish departmental goals, performance expectations, and key metrics while providing technical guidance, coaching, and professional development.
- Plan, prioritize, and delegate accounting activities, remove operational barriers, and ensure the team consistently meets deadlines and quality standards.
- Develop and maintain accounting policies, procedures, internal controls, and operational standards.
- Oversee general ledger activities and ensure accurate recording of income, expenses, and other financial transactions.
- Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes, including close calendars, reconciliations, deadlines, and reporting requirements.
- Review balance sheet reconciliations and monitor working capital accounts, including cash, accounts receivable, accounts payable, accrued liabilities, and fixed assets.
- Prepare and compile monthly financial statements for leadership and shareholder reporting.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable accounting policies while maintaining the integrity of financial data and accounting systems.
- Lead annual external audit activities, including coordinating documentation, responding to requests, and supporting successful audit completion.
- Monitor daily cash positions and organizational liquidity while partnering with FP&A on forecasting, planning, and financial analysis.
- Provide accounting expertise and guidance to operational leaders and collaborate with system administrators on technology enhancements and improved accounting workflows.
- Identify opportunities to streamline processes, strengthen controls, improve systems, and increase operational efficiency.
- Partner with Finance leadership on strategic initiatives, departmental planning, budgeting, forecasting, and ad hoc financial analysis.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
- 7–10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including prior leadership or people-management responsibilities.
- Demonstrated experience overseeing general ledger accounting, financial reporting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, and month-end close processes.
- Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and financial reporting practices.
- Proven experience leading accounting operations, strengthening internal controls, and improving financial processes.
- Demonstrated ability to coach, develop, and manage a high-performing accounting team.
- Strong analytical, organizational, critical-thinking, and problem-solving capabilities, with excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships across Finance and operational teams.
- High level of integrity and discretion when handling confidential financial information.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet demanding deadlines, exercise sound judgment, and work independently.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and accounting systems.
- CPA designation is preferred.
- Experience leading external audits and working with ERP or cloud-based accounting systems is a plus.
- Experience supporting budgeting, financial planning, or FP&A processes is preferred.
- Experience working within a remote or distributed organization is an advantage.
- Ability to work effectively in a remote-first environment using virtual collaboration tools and maintain a schedule aligned with business collaboration needs.
- Must be based in the United States; employment is currently unavailable in California, New York, Illinois, and Oregon due to employment and tax compliance considerations.
- Competitive salary range of $87,000–$92,000 annually.
- Fully remote position within the United States, subject to location eligibility requirements.
