Accountabilities

  • Establish departmental goals, performance expectations, and key metrics while providing technical guidance, coaching, and professional development.
  • Plan, prioritize, and delegate accounting activities, remove operational barriers, and ensure the team consistently meets deadlines and quality standards.
  • Develop and maintain accounting policies, procedures, internal controls, and operational standards.
  • Oversee general ledger activities and ensure accurate recording of income, expenses, and other financial transactions.
  • Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes, including close calendars, reconciliations, deadlines, and reporting requirements.
  • Review balance sheet reconciliations and monitor working capital accounts, including cash, accounts receivable, accounts payable, accrued liabilities, and fixed assets.
  • Prepare and compile monthly financial statements for leadership and shareholder reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable accounting policies while maintaining the integrity of financial data and accounting systems.
  • Lead annual external audit activities, including coordinating documentation, responding to requests, and supporting successful audit completion.
  • Monitor daily cash positions and organizational liquidity while partnering with FP&A on forecasting, planning, and financial analysis.
  • Provide accounting expertise and guidance to operational leaders and collaborate with system administrators on technology enhancements and improved accounting workflows.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline processes, strengthen controls, improve systems, and increase operational efficiency.
  • Partner with Finance leadership on strategic initiatives, departmental planning, budgeting, forecasting, and ad hoc financial analysis.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
  • 7–10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including prior leadership or people-management responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated experience overseeing general ledger accounting, financial reporting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, and month-end close processes.
  • Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and financial reporting practices.
  • Proven experience leading accounting operations, strengthening internal controls, and improving financial processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to coach, develop, and manage a high-performing accounting team.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, critical-thinking, and problem-solving capabilities, with excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships across Finance and operational teams.
  • High level of integrity and discretion when handling confidential financial information.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet demanding deadlines, exercise sound judgment, and work independently.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and accounting systems.
  • CPA designation is preferred.
  • Experience leading external audits and working with ERP or cloud-based accounting systems is a plus.
  • Experience supporting budgeting, financial planning, or FP&A processes is preferred.
  • Experience working within a remote or distributed organization is an advantage.
  • Ability to work effectively in a remote-first environment using virtual collaboration tools and maintain a schedule aligned with business collaboration needs.
  • Must be based in the United States; employment is currently unavailable in California, New York, Illinois, and Oregon due to employment and tax compliance considerations.
Benefits

  • Fully remote position within the United States, subject to location eligibility requirements.
  • Opportunity to lead a corporate accounting function and directly influence financial operations and business decision-making.
  • Leadership responsibility for an accounting team with opportunities to coach and develop finance professionals.
  • Exposure to financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, cash management, audit, internal controls, and process improvement.
  • Remote-first work environment supported by virtual collaboration tools.
  • Opportunity to contribute to technology enhancements and operational efficiencies across accounting processes.
  • Inclusive workplace committed to equal employment opportunity and a collaborative team culture.
